Hi, all !
New to forum. We are moving to the northern neck of Virginia within a month. I am interested in any information I can get about the boating/fishing in the area surrounding Weems, specifically Taylor's Creek. Can I navigate from Taylor's to the Rappahannock in a john/bass boat??
What type of hull would be best for that water?
Will have a $10,000.00 budget for a used boat of some kind. Suggestions??
Thanks so much!

I've got a great 2004 Bass Tracker 185 with a 60HP 4stroke , all welded hull and it runs like a top. Has a very slight draft for an 18 foot boat. Probly can run in 18 inches to 2 feet of water. AND, it's for sale !

Reetz, I have a shallow water skiff for sale 8K, new in 2021 custom built, composite construction. I have fished the RAP, Pamlico sound, lake Anna. Good for shallow water with motor up draws 8". Currently use a 15 hp Merc, but this is a new motor, I also have trailer, also new would sell boat and trailer for $10,800. A 8-10 HP is perfect for the ship. I have been in a 2-3 foot chop and she runs fine. 540-429-4321 leave message if interested ill send pics. I bought a bigger boat to fish the Chesapeake, this skiff is to small for the run to the Chesapeake from Remlik,
Pete

Hello Reetz. Welcome to Weems. I am on Carters Creek off Weems Road. I'm somewhat new to the area, so I've not tried to explore Taylor's Creek yet. The Rappahannock can get dicey sometimes. I would get some time on it before you commit to a boat. I can help. Contact me when you get in town. I have a 23' Parker. Maybe you can bring me some luck with the fishies. :-)

Fiberglass is preferred. Saltwater is rough on rivets, and other fasteners. Center console is a great choice, unless your taking a group of people.
Weems is great location .... not far from the bridge, and the Bay. Trolling and bottom fishing is pretty common activity. 18 to 22 ft boats are fairly common for that area. Flat bottom boat will give you a choppy ride vs a "V" hull. The gunwale height is a factor to add to the equation (the height of the sides. You don't want low sides, or sides that beat your knees up while fishing) ...... This is MY take on a boat for your location.

I would find a used catamaran made to fish with a center console. They're very stable, they use way less gas and they're roomy for their length. Idk how much they cost but I saw a 20' cat hull last weekend that was the perfect fishin' machine in my opinion.
