I posted a similar question on the location specific section and I got this reply:
Fishing will start getting better as the water cools. Once water temps get into the 50s, find the shad schools and you'll find the fish. I mostly fish Cherokee from Point 17, up to about Point 26.
BassTrackers have a great rep, I think you’ll be mighty happy! And, since I am in a kayak, if you want to upgrade to a different boat next year, contact me and I will buy your Basstracker!
I’ve been fishing these three for the past couple weeks and I am having no luck at all. It appears that it is all rock/clay bottom, hardly any structure. Is the drawdown the reason I’m not hooking up? Or am I just looking in the wrong places? Any advice is appreciated!

Sure beats my kayak! But I was in an inner tube before that, so maybe I’ll have a BassTracker next year…Good for you!
I have a trolling motor on my kayak and I have been putting in at Cedar Hill boat ramp, Panther Creek boat ramp, and Black Oak. Obviously I can’t get to the spots that the pros go to for the tournaments, but I can get further than paddling. Since the draw down, I have found some really great places to fish for when the water is back up, nice structure and boulders and such. But everywhere I go, all I can find is rock or clay bottom. I’m fishing for bass, but they are very elusive for us amateurs. I see the really nice fish that the pros bring in during tournaments, but I’ll be damned if I know where they are getting them. I’m using some new techniques, new to me anyway, Ned rigs and drop shot rigs, along with the old standby plastic worm, spinnerbait, topwater, crankbait, jerkbait, etc. If anyone has some advice, I sure could use it. Also, if the rear deck of someone’s bass boat is empty, I would like to ride along and fish from the back. I am just stumped on this lake.
Standing on the ramp looking to the right?
I have a map showing the different depths, but I don’t know how accurate it is with the drawdown
Once I’m in the water, are there any particular spots that I should target?
I am fishing by kayak, and I put in at either Panther Creek, Cedar Hill Marina, or Noe’s Creek (Kidwells Ridge). Any advice on where to start looking for catfish to put on the dinner table? With the lake level drawn down so far the usual places that I would target are now above the waterline! Hints? Tips? Locations? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Are the shad or shiners live? Where do you get them?

They routinely stock stripers in Cherokee. In summer they tend to congregate near the dam, holding at depths around 60 feet. I have the most success with live shad. As temps cool down they start moving upstream towards the steam plant near Rogersville. In cooler mornings they sometimes hit top water plugs. They hard part is finding them when they start moving. If you like bass fishing you also have Douglas lake. Leadvale access is great place to launch a kayak. It near white pine off Leadvale Rd.

Where to buy live shad? I’ve found baby shad in a package at Walmart and Dick’s, like a plastic worm package. And at 60’, do you just go straight down from the boat and use a bobber, or just jigging it up and down? So exciting to find new fish and techniques! 🤗
