Hey thanks for the intel, good ‘ol gold panther Martin…mainstay in my tackle box, I guess I’ll just need to venture up there to see, but a pretty bitchin place to be if I get skunked.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful spring. Anyone fishin’ the Forks of the Kern River and its tributaries…I’m thinking’ the flow is fairly high and murky from snow melt.
Hey all, I would love to get up to the Owens Valley for some fly fishing, are the creeks running clear and slowing down any?
Looks like I’m gonna have to spend some time on Convict, it’s been a number of years, I guess now's as good a time as any! Wish me luck! Thx!
XLNT recommendations! Thx! I need a reason to head back up! I’ve been wanting to wish the ox bows on the east side of 395 leading to Crowley, have you fished them?
Just returned from Rock Creek and Rock Creek Lake, I believe they stocked the lake a week ago, only fished the lake for 20 minutes but caught 2- 8”, 1- 5” and an 13” rainbow. The lake level may be down a couple feet, but the creek is flowing nicely, Crowley Lake level look down a bit, did not fish there.
That’s unbelievable you have such history with that area, you must have experienced so much change. Would you mind sharing some insights of the area? It’s ok if you don’t, I understand keeping your experience and knowledge guarded, I certainly don’t mind exploration, just want to know what to expect.
I was thinking of taking Old City Creek Road, since I enjoy the backcountry driving element, then hike Bear Ck and SA River, I’m ok with some bushwhacking. Also planning to spend the night. I use flys with spinning rod and fly rod. I gather you have a lot of experience in those mountains, what about San Gabriel Cyn, East Fork, Cogswell reservoir - I used to hike those areas as a kid, before I really started to fish. Thanks you!
Oh wow! This is priceless!! Thanks so much!
Any info on the water level of Bear Creek and Santa Ana River in San Bernardino Nat Forest? Have anyone ever fished there?
Does anyone have any intel on creeks in the southern Sierra, specifically the south fork of the Kern river? If you know about eastern Sierra creeks, say around Lone Pine to Bishop, that would be helpful as well. Trying to plan a trip for the end of July to the are. Thanks!
It’s been 5 months, since then I’ve been in the backcountry each month, haven’t been fishing, but have been exploring possibilities in the local mountains and getting my gear ready.
I’m new to the blog, I’m into pina coladas and long walks on the beach…NOT, seriously, I’m a retired park ranger, I tend to fly fish small mountain streams in Southern California and the eastern Sierra, the more remote or obscure the better, rocky roads and overgrown trails, pretty much catch and release, I also tie my own indistinguishable, disfigured flys.
