We recently moved to Iva SC and have been fishing lake Russell.
Any information about the area would be great.

If you are looking for. Stripers, blueback herring pulled around on down rods, planer boards or free lines and look for bait on your graph. Russell is a trophy lake with a limit of two. If you want numbers, go below the dam and fish around Bobby Brown state park. Either place you need to be on the water at daylight. Let us know how you do.

Hey Brian, My wife and I are retired and live in the Charlotte, NC area. We enjoy coming down and fishing with guides in the Charleston area. We would love to come and fish with you during the week sometime. Give me a call if we can work something out. Tracy (704-201-6396).
Thanks and have a blessed day.

We fished that lake several years ago. I believe those two marinas are the only ones on the lake . The one on the upper end had nice cabins. Lots of nice hybrids and stripers in that lake, but you have to catch your own shad. None were available to buy then. Call a local bait shop for tips and info.

There are stripers and hybrids in Nottely that will bite year round on live bait. We fished it several years ago with a guide named Josh Garrison and did great..

Hey TW, Ithink I told you wrong. The surf city pier is cheaper than the Seaview, but they both are nice. If you go to the seaview after 9PM, the ticket is good for the next day.

Hey Gordon, you mentioned getting them at the docks. Where is that? What seafood company?

Hi Guys, being relatively new to NC, I would appreciate some of your local knowledge. I can fish both the Surf City & Seaview fishing piers in December/January. Can you suggest what target species should be around during these months - Trout, Red/Black Drum, Sheepshead, Sea Mullet, Spot? Based on Troy's recent advice I know to use fresh shrimp for most of them (with WD-40 of course!). Thanks in advance for any advice you can share.

The seaview pier is cheaper, but they have a nice pier. The restaurant is closed. Not sure if they will reopen. We went to Thomas seafood and got fresh shrimp to use. It's cheaper and better quality than the pier bait. A neat website to see the pier cameras is www.surfchex.com. You can actually see if they are catching fish or not on the surf city pier.Good luck.

My wife and I decided to head to Topsail for Thanksgiving and got to fish one day. We surf fished in front of our condo for 3 hours and fished on the Seaview pier for three hours that evening. Fresh shrimp for bait. We caught whiting, croaker, blues, black drum, puffers, flounder, sting rays, and speckled trout. That was a day to be thankful for.

Thanks for the update. BTW I normally camp at Lanier Campground but I am having some problems with my camper. Know of a place to stay at a reasonable rate? I am 71, on a fixed income and will be fishing by myself. I checked the motel at Seaview but they have gone sky high on their rates compared to what they used to be. Other than needing a place to do the 3 S's and sleep, most of the time I will be fishing.

Everything down there is high as a cat’s back and booked up. Not cheep to camp anymore. You might try VRBO or AirBNB for a room in a house mid island. Good luck.

Looking for information on striper fishing Lake Lanier in Georgia

Check out the fishing reports from Capt. Mack Farr with Lake Lanier fishing charters. He has reports from several guides on the lake.

Yep, on the Stripers and Hybreds. I pretty much fish with artificial baits. I target them when they are actively feeding. Many people also troll for them. Tttthere is a bait shop near the dam that sells live shad. May be others I'm not aware of. Things should pick up next week. Water temps were 65-66 degrees yesterday. Needs to get down to mid 50s for their dinner bell to start in earnest!!

Thanks for the info D King. Might head that way around Thanksgiving.
