Sharon woods metro park on Clevland Ave has a lake with a nice dock for fishing. Antrim lake has one too. Contact Columbus Metro parks. The parks are great, and theres probably more places I don't know about. Good luck!
Hi JD. Theres a few places you can access the river to wade. This spot is at the far back side of Highbanks metro park on Rte. 23 north of 270. Theres also the River bluff area off Rte. 315 just south of 750. Theres parking at both locations. I'm surprised you kayak the Olentangey, as it's really shallow, except when it's high and muddy after a lot of rain. I wade it, but haven't tried my kayak there. Good luck when you get out there!
Went wading in the Olentangey again this morning. Caught a couple little smallies, a couple rock bass, and this chunky guy. Its a re-run because I caught this same fish for my last post! I could tell because he only has 1 good eye, as you can see. Got him in the exact same spot, on the same bait (zoom pumpkin craw), and same time of day. Now his name is Dead-eye, and I know where he lives. Wonder how many more times I can catch him this summer?
Fishyaker, if you look at my profile pic, it was taken in that very quarry. Its my favorite lake to kayak and has huge largemouth bass in it. I was right across the trail from the lake yesterday when I took the pics of the creek.
JOS, we have a lot of nice creeks and small rivers in Ohio. Also large rivers, lakes and lake Erie. I like to wade the creeks. The smallmouth like to lie in calm pockets, next to current, and in riffles behind rocks or fallen trees. During the hot part of the year they hang out anywhere there is shade, on more than a foot of water. This spring, green pumpkin, Zoom plastic craw, has been my go to lure for smallmouth. Im hoping to get down and fish in florida someday. I hear you have monster bass down there!
Went out again this morning at another local small river. Big Darby creek is really beautiful, and a good smallmouth stream. I did a lot of walking this morning, and only got 1, but it was better than skunked, and he was a good 1!
Boy! I need to get up north there and fish Erie for those monster smallies! Nice fish! Thanks for the pics!
Went and did some wading this morning. caught a few decent smallmouth, and 1 little rock bass. Water was clear and nice!
I go there fairly often. I fish from a kayak, so I stick to lakes with a HP limit. Hoover is 15 HP motors. Its a great lake for bass, crappie, and lots of catfish. There are a lot of good ramps too.
Sounds nice! Good luck next time out.
Where were you fishing? Is that Hoover? I havnt been out on any of the bigger lakes yet. The weather has been awful! glad you got in some reel time, and at least a fish!
Welcome Dave. It has been tough in Ohio this spring. Lets hope it warms up, and stops raining every day, before June!
First time out on the quarry this season. A storm was moving in, and I thought I was skunked, threw one last cast at a lie-down and this guy chased off the skunk. First LM of the season, great day out there!
Beautiful fish! Congrats!
Thanks Buckeyepops. I was thankful I had my net that day! Go Bucks!
