Just keep it up try different spots did early in the morning fish after the sun goes down. You will find them read all you can anywhere on what type of fish you want to catch. Then hit the water and have at it. Remember a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. Hope you enjoy your retirement!!!

When it’s hot fish the weeds bass hate hot bright water. Use a weed less heavy jig with a trailer. Best to use 50 pound braid because you will be pulling that fish through the weeds and your going to need something stronger to land it. Google punch Jiging it works

Comment about Spine not correct!

Each rod is designed to bend a different way.
A casting rod is equipped with a reel seat that positions a spincast or baitcast reel above the rod and all the rod guides face upward. When fighting a fish on a casting rod the rod bends over with the guides facing up so the force of the fish pushes the line down on the eyelets and the rod blank. This prevents a big fish from pulling the eyelets off of the rod.
Unlike the casting rod, a spinning rod holds the spinning reel under the rod with the rod guides facing downward. So when you are fighting a fish, the force of the line pressed against the eyelet is pushing away from the rod blank and could lead to a big fish pulling an eyelet off of the rod.

Definitely a decent set of needle nosed pliers, a landing net, a pair of wire cutters to cut off a hook barb in case you get hooked. Leave a good first aid kit in your car. A pair of scissors for cutting line.

Exactly what flyguy said is the best way to tell. And it is not good to use a spinning reel on a baitcasting rod or vice versa. Due to the location of the rods spine.

I know everyone has their own ways but just offering you folks a trick I use when I night fish from the bank. I go to the dollar store and buy a 20 pack of glow sticks and I scotch tape them to the end of the rod. Yeah they make the rod tip beacons but for what they cost like about 4 bucks and I think you get two of them. I spend like two bucks for 20 and a roll of scotch tape. Just a thing I do I wanted to share. If you can save a few dollars here and there it can add up to a new lure!!

Welcome Sean.

Do you and RDR both think 50 or 60 is old?

Guys life is just getting started a lot less responsibilities, Or should be anyways.

Depending on kids and Grandkids and how much time you spend with them and your spouse, if there is one.

Perk up make the most of it.

I don’t think at 50 I’m old I am the first one on the wakeboard when we take our play boat out I don’t plan on slowing down no time soon. I still even take the dirt bike out on the trails a two wheeler not a quad. I may be 50 but as my wife says I still act like I did 27 years ago when we got married.... lol But on some days I just feel it more

My name is Sean I’m 50 years old. I just love to fish. I have passed it on to my two sons and my daughter. Our typical weekend consists of loading up the coolers and the boat and don’t come home till dark. I fish all over southwestern pa. During the day I like to fish for bass off my boats And at night I like to bank fish and drink beers trying to land big cats and carp. Thanks for the add.

When it’s hot and sunny the bass hide. They like darker water. They usually hide in the weed beds start punching the weeds with a 1 ounce punch jig use a crayfish trailer the clearer the water the more natural you want your colors to be. The muddier the water the darker color lures is what you want to use. Try it google punching the weeds.

Next time you re-spool use Power Pro. Lasts longer and doesn't fray.
