First of all, if you consider it a waste of time, you shouldn't be fishing at all. You gain experience every time you fish. Learn how to read tidal charts and lunar calendars if you really want to catch fish.
I prefer the Carolina rig. 2 # test line. 12" to 18" leader. #10 to #8 Owner mosquito hook. 1/4 oz. Egg sinker weight. Toss it 20 ft. from shoreline off a part of the lake where it gets deep quickly (15'-20' of water). Use inflated nightcrawler or Rainbow power bait by Berkely. You'll catch trout best at the beginning of fall, all of winter, till the beginning of summer.
So, I say anything they sell over the counter, works!!!!!
It angers me how expensive lures can be! And how easily they are lost while fishing!!!!!This year, I'm using all the old tackle/lures/gear I've accumulated throughout the past 15 years, and landed the biggest bass of my life on a 1/2oz. Blu Gill RatL trap (5lbs 6oz.) and a modified swim jig (5lbs. 8oz.)
Can you see signs of life or fish activity? Baitfish? I like throwing lures around wherever baitfish are active........usually, catch a bass.
I guess everyone does whatever they want...but, since it's illegal in my state to use them as baitfish, I'd rather not risk the hassle with the cops or DFG....they seem to be everywhere, nowadays. However, if you know of a secluded area , perhaps it is worth a shot!!!!
That's me right there! Handled it using an inflated nightcrawler that I casted in the area where boiling...I caught two 2 pounders, a 3 and 1/2 pounder (casting a 1/2 ounce rattL trap blue gill colored) while casting at boils, though!). Also, landed a 9lb. catfish, in two trips, within two days, at the same exact location on the lake from shorline!
Caught the sketchy 5lb. BASTARD!
Reading is backwards...on the scale and hard to see, my bad...fishing solo.....The only way to land big ones!
I tend to do well with purple (dark in stained and light in clear water), brown/green combinations, red (stained water). Sometimes, black blue combos. Silver/black when shad are running. Try Margarita Mutilators by Roboworm in either stained/dark/clear water. Should work.
@keepitreel exactly, these people are using the wrong pole for the wrong function. They're not made for bait and waiting, however, of course you can do it
Cant catch!
What is a good lure to use on feeding/boiling bass first thing in the morning and at sunset!!!???? I live in So Cal, and fish local lakes and reservoirs, mainly....My local fishing hole has big ass bass that are severely pressured by boats/people/anglers. Any suggestions?????
Longer casts. Work best for lure fishing.
Not from the shoreline. The tend to be 12" to 30" on the west coast, maybe up to 30 pounds.
