Thanks for the info! I usually use metals and lures in that area. I have gotten Blues and Kingfish in the past.

I'm curious about thr Myrtle Beach Area specifically. But I am also looking for info about the East Coast from SC up through NJ. I am heading to MB in early August but I also hit the beaches from AC down through Ocean City MD.

Son Gregg and I headed over to one of the township waters yesterday. Had some heavy rain initially but later bright sunshine and nasty humidity. Caught some and had fun. Voles patrol the shoreline and eat the ever present latest weed growth one removes from their lures and the northern water snakes patrol for those voles distracted by their new found snack. This guy was looking for such a meal.

Nice day BK. Just curious as to what Township as I am also in NEPA. If you don't mind posting it or just your county.

What are the surf catching chances when they do get into the area?

Just wanted to check in with anyone about the current Fall Run of Stripers and where the action is.

Thanks but unfortunately we didn't
get anything to get excited about. I managed several Hickory Shad using a 1 1/2 oz stick bait. My Son-in-law caught several Spiny Dogfish using a Mullet Rig. Spoke with several local tackle shops and the general consensus was that most of the desirable species have moved out to the deeper waters or South. We still enjoyed our time on the beach though. The weather was definitely favorable. Casting in the surf with Waders and a short sleeve shirt on Thanksgiving in South Bethany! I won't complain.

Check YouTube.com for Bearded Brad; or Bama Beach Bum. They use some sort of thread to hold Ghost Shrimp onto a single hook. I would bet it applies to your situation

I don't believe it matters. Especially since braid runs at higher tensile strength than mono. Diameter of 8lb mono is somewhere around 20 to 30 lb test in braid, depending upon the brand and type ect.

Try looking for that rod/reel combo on Amazon. Ugly Stick GX2. Walmart and some of the others sell it also. Just compare the prices.

For someone just starting out; budget conscious or not; I would recommend the Ugly Stick combos in a 2 piece set. 6 1/2 ft medium action with 6 to 8 lb monofilament. This is a very good all around setup for panfish; trout; bass; walleye; catfish ect. You can also use it as a saltwater setup. If you talk to your local sporting goods shops they can help you get your "terminal tackle " and lures. They can help to keep it simple. It won't be cheap but with that rod/reel combo you can get yourself a tackle bag or box and fill it for under $100.00

What's happening in the surf and/or sound?
Any recommendations for baits or lures? Looking to be in the area for Thanksgiving.
