Skunky on South Padre Island surf Thursday, Friday, today & forseeable future when water so chocolate brown & sideway undertows so bad lines won't stay put. 2 hardheads(catfish) Thursday, otherwise skunked. We would love to see some of that calming like in South Carolina.
Hi Andy,
Was that you I was fishing with Padrebino & Brownsville Tony last Friday? It was fun & hope we do it again soon, maybe Thursday or maybe I'll check the beach out tomorrow- Tuesday? Lots of wind & chocolate water in surf with these storms. Did OK on Whiting that day right before dark though.
Gulf or Bay? What kind of bait/rig? I retired last year so finally have more time for my first red drum fishing in the surf in the gulf, fish finder rigs for red drum mostly. We also moved back to near South Padre Island & am catching other than Whiting now that I have time. Nice fish

Caught my first fish surf fishing Sunday been coming to Perdio Key Fl. For 3 years now spend 5 weeks down here finally hooked up yesterday well worth the wait 40 lb black drum my biggest fish ever.
We are now in the middle of a real norther February 2022, the gulf water is chocolate colored & winds are like a tropical storm. I am now retired and a surf fishing addict on South Padre Island, TX. December 2021 to January 2022 I caught my first surf slot Redfish as well as 3 nice eating sized Florida Pompano in addition to my usual pails of Whiting. When this north blow finally subsides I guess the colder water would be good for paternoster rigs, I like the chartreuse & orange colored beads & a mix of #1 & #2 circle hooks, fresh shrimp, sand fleas, slabs of Whiting or mullet... any other suggestions, what did you get the wonderful Black Drum on, water colder also- February?

Hey Forrester ED. Why is your name ELKINVEST on the user list but Forester Ed here? Just curious
I retired as a City Forester and am now an avid surf-fisherman living in Laguna Vista, mostly fishing on South Padre Island, TX, north out of Port Isabel
I am trying to change it to Forester Ed. The Elkinvest was from my investment boards.
Bloodworms, lugworms sandworms- right? I like to surf fish South Padre Island, TX. I recently retired and am a surf fishing addict now. The bait shops here never heard about these lugworms & I don't see any of the u-shaped holes with castings in our surf. We do have sand fleas and ghost shrimp which are great baits & can be caught. Any thoughts? Any other surf fishing addicts? Ed
