The 1st I would check the ground that is usuly 75% of the trouble.Also the unit allways funtions best when it is run directly to the battery,not a junction that a lot of things running off of it.Hope that helps

The first thing to look is the current you will be fishing in.The 2nd Hingis is about the battery you plan to use .the bigger the thrust the more juice it will take.What ever you do if you are fishing by yourself (all ways) ware a life jacket.The best of luck,most men would give anything to have a wife like you.Hope this helpes.
