Fly fishing is definitely more of a challenge. When the fish go deep in summer, it’s hard to get down there with a fly rod. The heavy equipment is needed to get to where the fish are. Hiking up into the high country to fish is where it’s at w/a fly rod. I haven’t been to Martis. How’s the water level & quality?

Bring Ur fishing pole. The good fishing is about to go deep & into the high country. Summer & empty rivers are about a month ahead of normal this season. The Carson river is still good for having enough water, but not for much longer.

Hi everybody. I’m new to Fishing Stage but have 50+ years of all kinds of fishing experience. I primarily fly fish & practice catch & release fishing these days, although I ocaisionally take one home. I’m hoping to create an information pipeline here on Fishing Stage for like minded fly fishermen but I also want to share info with my bait fishing buddies too. Post pandemic fishing around Tahoe has been better than usual. I’m guessing that a season of light fishing pressure last year gave the fish a chance to get a little bigger this year. It’s been a great season so far.

Hi Paul. Tahoe Bruce here. I grew up in Fresno & the family had a cabin at Huntington Lake. Huntington has fairly cold water & supports trout & Kokane Salmon. Shore fishing & trolling from a boat are the primary fishing methods. Shaver is more diverse & warmer, supporting trout, bass, catfish, & panfish. Both shore and boat fishing produce at Shaver. Both lakes are large, so using a fish finder helps locate more productive fishing grounds. Check with the local marinas to make sure there’s enough water in the lakes to keep the boat ramps open before bringing your trailer launched boat. (Drought conditions sometimes leave the boat ramps high & dry.) Good luck!!
