Thank you. Has been a real challenge around here. Some roads and stores are still closed. But somehow the looters are finding their way around town. Amazing.
Hope you are safe and warm as well.

hello everyone! I'm chris from rocky mount mo.
i stumbled onto this website while searching the internet for a possible spring drive-to trip for northern pike with my wife in 2023.
i would love some help and advice if anyone is willing to do that. i live in missouri and for the past 28 years my wife, myself and my kids have driven up to canada for an annual pike fishing trip, up until covid hit. when the kids were very young the pike were so easy to catch that even as they got older we stuck to keeping our trips for just pike (sometimes musky if they were in the same water system). now the kids are all grown up and have families and different priorities and that leaves me and my wife. since covid we quit going to canada and this will be our first trip in a few years. we have decided to stay in the US for our trip this spring and we always do a drive-to so that we can bring our boat. we started putting together information on different pike lakes and wow! now we are overwhelmed with information. minnesota was high on our list, also wisconsin because of the shorter drive, now i have been reading about north dakota & south dakota. there is tons of information out there but what we are hoping to find is a lake with a large population and with the opportunity to possibly catch a 40 incher. easy right! it seems that most of the articles that i find on these lakes are years old, nothing recent. i know i'm asking a lot but any help would be wonderful. sorry for the long introduction and Merry Christmas!!!

Agree $250 for a set up is well within reason. Think I’m going to look into centerpin a bit more. Sounds like a blast!

J: If you spend the time getting used to centerpinning you will really enjoy it. Great strikes and terrific battles.
good luck

I wouldn’t put my phone number on the open forum. May want to delete post and request private messages. It would be much safer for you.

I know I should probably know this but what is centerpin fishing?

Center pin reel is a free-spinning reel. Control of line is with ones finger or thump. It is one of the very best salmon/ steel head reels. Takes a little practice, but is a great river reel.

Any guidance on spots of fish on the lake im here with kids on vacation have a boat just looking to catch a couple fish also what bait and species to target

Lake is known for some of the best northern pike fishing in the country. World record stuff. Go to the western weed beds, use live minnows or large stick baits, swimmers. Try to use the shaded weed beds. Make sure you use some sturdy tackle. Stop in at one of the tackle shops and ask for some advice. They are always willing to help..
Good luck and have fun. A great place to be this time of year.

My only grandson, Ike was a star soccer player for all his years in school. But due to an emergency, the football coach needed a kicker and drafted Ike to potentially be the team’s field goal kicker. Before he was to suit up and be the kicker, the coach had him kick a field goal from 20 yards which he made. They moved back to 30 yards, same thing, and even from 40 yards, Ike made kicked the ball through the uprights without any problem.

It does me proud to have a ‘star’ football player in my grandson. He also does kickoffs and punts, and punts on fourth downs is risky and with a chance of being hit by the opposing players. Now, Ike has lettered four years in soccer and looks like he will letter two years in football. Besides being a ‘big man’ on campus he will probably top out at over 6 feet tall!

This is his senior year, and we hope to get to see him play in some games this fall, which is
his last year in high school. You can and do live vicariously in the actions of your children and grandchildren! Just Sayin…RJS

Sometimes you all are more connected than my actual friends I see regularly . I suspect a lot are my own age I guess

When I first moved to Dayton oh for work 22 years ago ,
I was in a bar , new in town , honestly seeing what the opposite sex was up to .
Sat down next to a guy. Bout my age. We started shooting the bull.
He owned a local tool shop business and I was an engineer / welder.
He said. Hey, I have an opportunity to buy a design for a excercise bike deal exclusively for use in parapalegic patients.
Well we looked at phone pics and decided , yes , I can reverse engineer the design easy enough and could help him tool up.
He ended up buying the rights and hit technical help with controls from another buddy.
No idea what he paid. But he bought the tube fab equipment and welder and farmed out the other components.
We spent a couple days a week in his shop after hours , drinking beer , making components , teaching me to throw darts and welding prototypes.
Unit number 3 went to actor Christopher Reeves
Well Christopher was so impressed with his excercize unit, he gave an astounding endorsement of my friends product.
Months later my friend built a small metal building to produce the order demand. Tool shop shrank and started making excercise machine tooling . He bought another press and added a robot welder. Which I helped him program.
I’d stop and see him and drink a beer every now and then.
We were both busy.
He got diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer.
Before he died, he bought me a magnum of Johnny Walker Blue.
Appreciation he said.
I’ve kept that bottle in my basement ever since.
I have a shot every year on anniversary of his death .
I also have a shot anytime I have a harrowing experience in my life. Death of a family member , someone getting killed in a helicopter crash because of a part my department made.
Proving my business partner stole 1.26 M from our business and accepting a check in lieu of pressing charges. That kinda harrowing experience that when it’s over , I’m physically and mentally drained.
My wife knows when I’m gonna hit the blue, leave me alone.
I pour the shot, light a cigarette, sip half , reflect on what the hell just happened and allow myself to cry for five minutes. No more no less. Then slam the rest .
Then I’m done with that particular drama.
I put it away and move on .

My last work incident caused me to hit the blue last night .

I realized I only have maybe three shots left.

I’m sad because of that.
This is a delima I need to ponder on .

A very interesting recital of what goes on in lives of honest and sincere people. It seems that you have many, many, opportunities to be thankful as well as grateful for these experiences. You have been able to survive the ravages of sadness and dishonesty and still able to see the life lessons therein. It takes a special sort to be able to glean the good from those darker places and continue to grow towards the light. I was compelled to comment. Since it is sometimes hard for anyone to make sense of what is done with intent or by circumstances it is that strength of character that lets one see through it and move on. Good luck.
