what is the best way to fish piers, especially at low tide. I use sliders on my bait rig, sometimes sinker on bottom, bait up, or the reverse.

Best way to find good spots is to visit some bait shops! As for the hip, make sure to wear ice grips on your feet, use a walking stick, don't go out alone!! Good luck!

Not unless they were weighed on certified scales and submitted to state or world records

ok, those were the first red drum we ever caught, and we were happy to release two bruisers. I didn't see any mention of having certified scales involved on the boat, fish was released after measuring as per regulations. so I will check out DWR records for state. thanx.

Just read article in today's Daily press stating that possible world record bull drum was caught in a tourny on June 3rd!! Fish measured127cm. I have pics of myself, my youngest son and a charter boat captain with two bull drum taken around York spit in Aug. 2017. One was 64.5in( 184cm ); one was 60in, the big one was estimated to weigh 65 to 70lbs! I have the pics and citations for VA fisheries dept. So do I hold the world rec for #1 and#2 red drum???

My choice would be a medium 6.5 to7 ft rod, spin or casting. Smaller rapalas, any soft plastic that mimics crayfish, Look for rocky out crops, have at it!!! Carl.
