Saw on a fishing report that Caddis larvae was working in the Crooked. Tie up a few and give it a shot. Pictures of your catch big or small would be nice.

also they make a flat one that holds the bottom better.
If you bait the hook to keep it alive they can dig back into the sand, and some times feel like some things there.
so keep it moving, but pay it out when its moving in the right direction,a little like sailing into the wind.again you don't need much weight,1 oz.less is better.the fish are in a trough waiting to ambush a sand crab, following the tide. in fairly shallow water.cast past it and fall in.
And again the ocean is full of things that want to eat you,not to mention the overwhelming forces a big tide can create. Be safe

Thank you, I will be trying this out in the Newport to Lincoln City area. Another question is weight and do you want your bait to move around or stay put?

What tactics do you use for surf perch, I want to try it but don't really know anything about rigging and tactics such as rod and reel type that works best and how to bait etc. Thanks

Hey yall, just moved to The Dalles a couple months ago from South Carolina and I'm ready to go fishing, thing is I've not fished for salmon or sturgeon or steelhead before, so any guidance would be appreciated. I'm asking for tips on techniques and baites/lures, I don't want your honey holes, but a suggestion on someplace that I might actually have a chance at hookin somethin would be fantastic. Thank alot anglers, tight lines and happy fishing!

Stevethewalleyeguy.com He may be able to give you some good advice. 503.806.5576 He does Salmon Sturgeon and Walleye.

I am driving up Highway 5 to Portland tomorrow 12-21-22, staying at a Hostel to do some hopefully salmon fishing.
My first time there or even trying salmon fishing. Any tips on hook size, type, line, bait, hook rigging set up will help.
Yes i will pay the license fee and stamp. I am driving from Ontario, Calif for a 2 week vacay. Please help, Frank.

Coastal streams have plenty of Steelhead now, I used to fish Meldrum bar this time of year but am now in Central Oregon, I can't tell you how fishing is right now but would think it is decent. Good Luck!

Must be pretty good size cutthroat to suck down a full Nightcrawler🤷‍♂️

Caught many of them from 12 to 22 inches on them. I pulled a 5 inch smolt out the mouth of an 8 inch cut and a whole crawdad out of a 13 inch cut. Both of these fish were caught on Cedar Creek that dumps in to the Siletz.

After 50 plus years of working i decided to call it quits!!! I live in Clackamas County Oregon and want to spend some of my spare time fishing and need to know what the Salmon and Steelhead runs are like now.

Since you are near Eagle Creek drive down to Bonnie Lure Park or Eagle Creek Park, the guys fishing there would be happy to let you know how things are. Also the Clackamas at McCiver Park, there is a trail out of the parking lot near the hatchery.

You speak of July Searuns? What species would that be?

As the other person said, they are cutthroat trout that go out to the ocean then come back when the Steelhead return. They are the one and only freshwater fish that I like to eat regularly.

This is the first year my brother and I have begun to troll for salmon on the coastal streams. One and only place was the Siletz and in about 3 days of fishing we did manage to pick up one fish had a couple more we couldn't get to the boat! Thank you for the comeback

Early July is a great time to troll for Searuns at the mouth, use a whole nightcrawler behind a wedding ring or flasher. Cedar Creek at the 15 mile mark roughly is a good spot for bank fishing Steelhead I have hooked many fish on my 4 foot rod with 4# test and landed only one 14# back biter.....right in the dorsal, it was a 45 minute fight. When the river is running a little high you can launch at Strome Park and go upstream you just have to be careful of depth with a prop. You need to cross over to other side at launch and there is deep slot to go up through.

Hello folks, hope you got tight lines. Starting to troll Tidewater on the siletz this year, looking for any info I can get.

I don't troll for Steelhead on the Siletz, but do for Salmon. The best place for Salmon for me is at the Big Red Barn and at Coyote Rock. Ask others what they use and how they troll they are normally happy to assist. I see a lot of people at the mouth also.

The Willamette along the treatment plant trail in Milwaukie is a good place to throw Rooster Tails along the rocky bank. I have caught many bass there. Also a great place for Sturgeon if you can cast out far enough. Good luck and good fishing.
