Fishing Reels - Spinning vs Baitcasting
I do most of my Bass fishing with a spinning reel but I do love my bait caster. I find that I can do a lot more fancy fishing with the bait caster and I've never had a birds nest that took me more than 15 minutes to undo, even at night with no flashlight.

waders leak
If All else fails, try to use the tried and true method of filling up the waders, one leg at a time, the same way to check for the leak on an inner tube. Fill it up with air seal it up with a Wire tie and push the full leg under water and look for air bubbles.

Local golf course pond
I've spent many moons fishing golf course ponds at night, late night, and caught more than a few monsters. My advice is to not eat them, golf courses use tons of fertilizer, literally, and that ain't good for digestion.
