My little brother has a slight interest in fishing, and I’d like to help him explore it more, but I’m unsure of the best method. What are the best lures to use for a child who doesn’t have the most patience? I’m thinking stay away from finesse techniques and rigged worms like senkos that involve any pauses, and focus on cranks, spinner baits, and top water? Thoughts?

I enjoy fishing bass with top water frogs. They are basically snag proof and quite exciting to see something hit it

Good idea! But not quite in season where I’m at, but will have to try when it warms up

Cranksbaits, any color that is advised by your locak shop. I have caught many good fish on them. Also poppers work well in the fall. But best of all is a wacky rigged worm.

I always had great luck with just plastic worms. Just gotta get the right color.

Its called fishing for a reason, if you constantly caught something it would be called catching.

Forsure, and he’ll get more into it, it’s just that right now he doesn’t like doing nothing for extended periods of time, my thought is having him constantly reeling or something would help ease him into it

I’d say any “ chuck and wined “ type of lure.... spinnerbait, lipless crankbaits, smaller swimbaits , glide baits, or any lure you can simply cast out and reel back. It’ll keep him busy enough and likely to catch a fish. That said, don’t force fishing on him and make it fun🏄🏼‍♂️🎣

I took my 6 year old grandson fishing 5-6 years ago. I was using Texas rigged plastic worms and he wanted to fish with them. I wasn’t sure if I wanted him to but he insisted. I couldn’t believe he caught a bass, but he caught 5! I would never have thought he would catch 1, but 5!

Sounds like you have a “natural “ on your hands! Keep him fishing! There are so many opportunities in the fishing world/industry now a days. Nothing much better than making $ doing something you love. Also, it’ll keep him focused and away from all the BS going on in the world. Surfing & fishing has saved my life!!!🏄🏼‍♂️🎣

I think this would be a good time for him to learn some patients that would help him out on his fishing as he is learning.

When I was able bodied I coon hunted a lot more than fished My buddy and I filled our pockets with frogs one night, It was 31 degrees that night, it changed how I thought about fishing with frogs. The last three baits you mentioned should do, use noise makers on top. Jitter Bug, Crazy Crawler, Buzz Baits and Poppers for a few should keep him intertained. And pow when he gets his first fish He'll be hooked

Ya, a Buzzbait would definitely keep him entertained! All the noise and commotion! Not to mention the savage hits they get! 🏄🏼‍♂️🎣

You didn't specify his age, but I'm guessing between nine and
twelve ? With a little age comes maturity, so you might start him off with some basics until he's a little older ! Patience may not be inborn to all, so it may need to be learned as he grows and matures ! I know my own patience level needed much work at that age; fortunately, I had a grandfather who was VERY patient and understanding, so he helped a lot in keeping up my interest in
fishing !
