There are a few boats working the river between Winchester bay and Reedsport but not much happening right now. Action is still in the ocean. The Siuslaw is closed to all salmon fishing this year. Some of the rivers up north are starting to show fish and the Columbia is great. Best of luck, keep checking in.

Great picture! Keep trying, you’ll get them next time! No fish, try raking steamer clams along the shore.

It’s a little early to salmon fish the Willamette. To date (4-8) there have been only 146 counted at the falls. There are some winter steelhead moving through but the count hasn’t been great either. Good luck wherever you go. Ron

I tie my mooching rigs with 65# braid for the first 6 inches or so then to 40# mono when I’m fishing for chinook salmon. I’ve lost some nice fish that have cut the mono with their teeth. The braid solves that problem and salmon are not line shy.

The Alsea river enters the Pacific at Waldport, Oregon. It’s a medium sized stream that starts in the coast range of mountains and has a good run of winter steelhead. Salmon fishing, searun cutthroat are also in good supply. Great river to fish with quite a bit of public access. Great crabbing for dungness is available in the bay.
Hope this helps.
