Scary stuff. Coast Guard came around the corner and got us on the radio and told us to move. Went west a bit and were going to go back but got our limits and decided to go home. Man, it was so beautiful out there. Amazing.

We got booted from our spot at 11:00 and watched a fleet of helicopters including an Apache practice manuevers for a couple of hours. It was pretty awesome.

Nice catch! Which island did the best? Thinking about going out to clemente today or tomorrow to get some yellowtail.

Definitely did better at Clemente.

Went out to the local islands this week. Perfect weather and tough fishing at first. Ended up with a good trip but lots and lots of hard work. Fishing 18 hours a day, making squid and island hopping but it all paid off. Calicos to 7 lbs, a couple of halibut, sheepshead to 5 lbs, soupfin sharkS, bat rays, yellowtail to 20 lbs and limits of white seabass to 40 lbs.

I've got two on my list...GT (ulua) and a Wahoo (ono)...spending a week in Maui in August and going out for a one day offshore/bottom - 90 minutes trolling to the reefs, 3 hours on the reefs and 90 minutes back in. Hopefully I get one of the two :-)

What you can do as well is bring a small charger out with you and with a separate power source, hook it up to the battery. Let it run for an hour and then plug the boat in with both chargers running. The on-board will get tricked into starting and then when your remove the portable charger, the ob will stay on. Let it run as long as you can...
PS- I've owned a electric boat repair company for 33 years and work on "Duffy" type boats since '87....

I know. I was wondering if he had a navigation radar in there. A long time ago I used to work on them.

No, no radar yet. I go to an island 26 miles from port and there is a CG station and lots of traffic around the island so I feel pretty safe. Also lots of coves to hide out is it gets shitty... coming home if the fog hits is when it gets scary. With COVID there are literally 30 container ships withing 5 miles of the harbor entrance and in the fog that would get hairy if you're in a hurry. radar would fix that :-) See the map attached...

I would recommend you subscribe to Seatow, or another competitve towing service. If you don't have any backup power, or motor, you are taking a big risk. Just Sayin...RJS

I have SeaTow RJ. Wouldn't leave port without it. Also have satellite radio with an emergency CG call button. Hope I never have to use it.

Very nice boat, you could have fooled me that it’s 5 years old. Looks brandy new, just love CC’s for ocean fishing.

It is immaculate. Such a good find. I'm beyond happy....

You need either another motor or some of your buddies in a nearby boat or a really dependable radio to call for help to get you home when the motor with 250 hours dies.

I have two friends who are going to be out there, have a good radio and SeaTow. I should be good. Smart move to get a 2nd motor though...have to save up some cash for that... Good thing is the motors, with good maintenance are good for up to 2000 hours. Not too worried about it going out.
