I think it's all private from the bridge downstream, not sure about upstream (might be National Forrest). We lived by the the little church by Doty Rd. before you get to the store. 1978 - 1988. I built us a 3400sq ft. Redwood home and planted a lot of trees and bushes out by the hwy. I see on google maps you can hardly see it from hwy.

Yea I used to own the 4 acres on the downstream side of the bridge (I was a builder and I installed that bridge - it was a tough summer). I owned centerline of hat creek for 600' from the bridge down stream. Fun times, Baum Lake, The Pitt, and esp. night fishing with Bob Quigley and the local guides on Fall River up by Rick's Lodge.

Sure glad I'm not wantin to do that.

I live 15 miles from the Oregon boarder or 20 miles from the Chetco river so I have to.
Can't resist the call from the Steelies.
The Chetco is such a temptress.
Still a bit of sticker shock!!

I see most guides have significantly raised their rates. Here's a couple still posting at $250.
I live in Crescent City, both of these guides have good local reputations.
I didn't contact them to verify their advertised rates. Good Luck fishing, now is the time.

Fish the smith, higher a guide about $250 for all day. Worth every nickle.
Otherwise there are lots of bank fishing spots. Bobber with strike indicator and a nymph or roe.
Good luck, this is great timing, the fish have been idling waiting for some rain to move up river.
The next 10 days should be superb, as long as it doesn't rain too much.
The Smith clears really fast. Fantastic river.

The Smith, rivers were all closed (Low flow) but this last rain opened them back u. The Smith went from 550cfs to over 5000cfs overnight yesterday. Fish are moving, nows a great time. Steelies should be showing up anytime now.

But best fishing is on the coast. This time of year start with the main stipe of the eel, then Van Duzen, the mad, Redwood Creek, Klamath, Smith River, cross the border into Oregon a little The Chetco, go north 20 The Roguel, sixes,on and on. Look em up on google maps. We live in Crescent City, all those rivers are within 75 miles.
The best salmon and steelhead fishing in the world. Fish have been holed up in the estuares waiting for rain so they can go up river and spawn and there are lots of them. Until we get a bit more rain they won't bite. Picky Picky. With rivers low like they are use sand shrimp and a bobber. Any bait shop can rig you up. Good luck and enjoy God's Country. The Smith and The Chetco give up some real Lunkers (30 - 40 lb).
