I'm very confused (as usual). California is a big long state, easily divided into three parts - southern, central and northern. I would put San Jose and the entire San Francisco Bay Area into the central part. LA and San Diego are southern Cal. Where southern ends and central begins can be debated. When you start heading north you end up in places like Eureka and Yreka, Humboldt, Redding, Shasta. So get on 101 and head north. When you get to Eureka, you'll be in Northern California.

Hi Ed I live in the "True Northern Ca" Crescent City 19 miles south of the Ca/Or border. I'd draw the line a little south of Redway. What are you looking to fish for? What body of water (Ocean, Estuary, River) We have all. Salmon fishing is wrapping up a good season, steel head are due soon (we need a good rain) Crab Season has started, big meaty Crabs. ck out this web site for fairly current fishing reports.

I would go on line and look. There is a pay for fishing lake south of San Jose that used to be pretty good. Don't know if they are still around and in SF there is Lake Merced, haven't been there for decades but they plant trout and there are bass there.

It really depends on what kind of fishing you want to do. There are several spots in SF Bay for dock fishing and on the coast for Striper, perch, etc. So you have a choice.

Gotcha a possible solution, dude !
I hear this guy named Vespucci is promoting these new-fangled drawings on paper that supposedly show things like roads and lakes and rivers and oceans and mountains..... he's calling them MAPS.
A buddy of mine saved up some coin of the realm, and managed to purchase one......and now claims that he'll not get lost ever again..... love the guy like a brother, but he's a fisherman, so you kinda gotta take everything he says with a grain of salt, 'ya know.
Who knows ? Maybe he's on to something.... we'll see, huh ?

Wish I could recall that Vespucci guy's first name, it sounded kinda familiar......Amerrycan, Amerrycan't, Amerrycuss, Amerrygo....round ???
Old age, I guess.... gotta start writing this stuff down while I'm still lucid. Anyways... good luck.

Ca is spoken as southern central and northern by the media the govt and other entities but nowhere have I seen in print the oficial lines of demarcation.

Anyway, there are a lot of places to do freshwater or saltwater fishing. And if you want to get out beyond San Jose and SF, there are literally 1,000's of places to fish.
