I am winter texans in Fulton Texas and I fish from kayak. You will be very limited to areas of catching local fish from Piers, banks, under bridges, next would be to Wade fish but not recommend at your age, best area for you is between Port Aransas and Aransas pass, checkout lighthouse kayak launch area on both sides of the highway, you will have decent luck plus able to make for a good day of fishing, picnic, visiting with other anglers

I built 2 from 6 plastic pallet spruce the 40" x 48". Assembled them in a box fashioned style, drilled holes in all the corners, middle, any area that would need air out, water in, set them up to allow only bait fish access and not bigger fish. I screwed all them together with deck screws, to sink I secured a cement block inside before finalizing box. After weeks the algae starts growing on the inside and outside giving the newly hatched fry plankton to feed on with no risk to predator fish that will be lurking on the outside waiting for a quick meal. Very Eco friendly and will last a lifetime, also cabable to pick up and move anywhere

Fishing the cuts during low tide, had to cull the catch down to 3 fish. Had the best 2 days of fishing ever, wore my shoulder out after many hours, many large red drum landed

2 nd season down in the Rockport texas area and the fishing is better every week, yes there are more advantages to getting out on the water verses bank fishing, you can go wherever you feel safe but I prefer the shallows off the bays, I have counted 17 kayak launch sites within as many miles so no limits on where to go.

No I was just fishing a narrow channel, 100 feet across with between 80 to 100 kayaks packed side by side, across due to low tide and fish pushed out of shadows into the cut channel, there were any color, any style, even big boats of all colors and ever one of us were catching limits of fish,no color did not matter

I go to the shallows, 15" average depth, stay close to vegetation where bait fish live, go wherever the bigger boats can't, I fish the Rockport area, plenty of shallows, plenty of big red and black drum. Use dead or live shrimp, whatever you feel adequate to use out of your kayak. I use a popping plastic bobber, but build my own rigging so as to suspend above the bottom to help elude crabs, hard head's somewhat. Also use fishbite but built mesh bag with peace of bite in it just under bobber couple inches as attractive scent online, adjust bobber for different depths. If that's not working, pull the bobber fish bottom. I limit out pretty much every outing, be the fish, think the fish
