Hey guys I’ve got into fishing recently but haven’t had good luck catching game fish. Can I get some pointers as to where and when I should fish? I’m fishing the Corpus Christi area and I have a kayak as well.
Lucas55: Well, sounds like you are off to a good start. I don't know how far you can drive before you have to launch, but the intercoastal waterway, all the way down to Port Mansfield offers excellent trout and Red fishing, and you can either use bait like live or fresh dead shrimp. See the current Texas Game and Fish Dept.'s report on what's happening at each of the beach locations for Corpus Chirsti. Just Sayin...RJS

Welcome to the stage Lucas. There's a few Texas guys on here that should be able to help you. They'll be along, meanwhile good luck and Tight Lines.
Lucas55: Did you go back and read my recent post Texas Department of Game and Wildlife report of fishing in different Texas Bays and waters? That would be a start. Just Sayin...RJS

From the Texas Game and Commission report, most recent.
Corpus Christi
GOOD. 75 degrees. Unchanged. The north side of the bay has been excellent for speckled trout, redfish, and black drum. The back lakes still have lots of redfish and are best on shrimp on popping corks. Flounder are excellent around the docks and channel edges and are good on soft plastics or minnow. Black drum is good on crab or shrimp late in the afternoon. Just Sayin...RJS

Just seeing this thank you for the info sir!
I go to the shallows, 15" average depth,stay close to vegetation where bait fish live, go wherever the bigger boats can't, I fish the Rockport area, plenty of shallows, plenty of big red and black drum. Use dead or live shrimp, whatever you feel adequate to use out of your kayak. I use a popping plastic bobber, but build my own rigging so as to suspend above the bottom to help elude crabs, hard head's somewhat. Also use fishbite but built mesh bag with peace of bite in it just under bobber couple inches as attractive scent online, adjust bobber for different depths. If that's not working,pull the bobber fish bottom. I limit out pretty much every outing, be the fish, think the fish

Welcome to the Fishing Stage, Mobile! I had fished (dredging for scallops) on a boat REGISTERED IN Rockport, TX; for a couple trips, off the East Coast, back in 1980, but, never actually got to Rockport! ("Caught" the boat, in Newport, RI; packed out at Newport News, VA; went back up south of Long Island y ended up "blowing" the keel-cooler & getting towed in to Point Pleasant, NJ.) {Then, I saw plainly that "Plan B" was needed.}
