Hey SM. If I were you I would use 30# braid. It cast very well and is strong enough to land just about anything you hook.
As far as bait get a couple of bags of frozen anchovies or sardines.
Use enough weight to keep your bait in one place on the bottom.
If the current is still drifting your bait, use more weight.
We use a double hook set up, bout 4 inches apart. Bout a 3 foot leader on a sliding clip, or sliding sinker rig.
Use a decent sized hook too. Like a 2/0 or bigger.
All that's if you're planning on striper fishin around Richmond.
