Based on your age, going back three generations to your great grandfather, the rod is probably fiberglass. One of the earlier ones manufactured in the erly 1950's. Does the rod have a round shape or a hexagon or octogon shape.? If it is round it is fiberglass. I doubt that it could be a glass impregnated bamboo rod. If your really interested in fly fishing start learning from the ground up. If your 14, then you already have the best tool available to you to learn to be a great flyfishermen. Google! Just start asking questions. You Tube. Just start watching videos. The first question you will want to google is "fly clubs in (insert the name of your city and state). Go to a meeting. It will be a bunch of older guys. Let them know you want to learn to fly fish. They will fall all over themselves to give you all the equipment you will need. Between them they will have centuries of knowlwdge and they will share every bit of it with you. As far as your great grandfathers rod, wipe it down and hang it on the wall. What I would give to have had google when I started... 55 years ago.

I live in the pacific northwest and am an avid trout and salmon flyfisherman. I travel and fish Wa,Mt,Id, and British Columbia ca as well as Vancounver Island. I would like to travel to North Florida this year in pursuit of Redfish. Anyone who coujld give me some suggestions on locations woujld be greatly appreciated.
If ther is anhyone out there who would like to learn the hot spots on the Northwest let me know. There are lakes in British Columbia that I fish where 10lb rainbows are common.

Thanks
