What is your go to whenever your having a tough day on the water or even if you just feel like catching fish?

I fish large mouth bass in a 22 acre lake. My "go to" lures are the River 2 Sea WHOPPER PLOPPER on the surface, and the Rapala CLACKIN' RAP at 8 to 10 feet. I find it better to put a deep diver just above where the fish are rather than through them or below them.

I went on a fishing trip by myself few months back and I was at a stream where it’s really quiet and all you can hear is the water. I constantly felt like I was being watched by something or someone even thought I should be the only one there and it was broad daylight. So I packed up my gears and drove to a more popular area that day where there are more campers and fishers. Have you guys ever experienced something similar or am I just tripping?

The only time I feel like I am being watched is the time I have to answer nature's call. I look for a hidden area up under tree limbs where I can place my boat and be hidden. Yet, I am very cautious about someone seeing me. However, I like being alone with only the sounds of nature around me. It's a big part of why I go fishing. I'm older, and I don't like a lot of "hype."

Where I fish ( lake in southern Indiana ) they would be good for bass at surface to about 12'. I've fished this lake for about 35 years, and I can tell you what colors will work for the bass in it. You did very nice work! Cheers!

And for the love of everything holy please stop laying your fish down on any surface to take a picture unless you are going to eat it. Slime coats are actually important to their health.

Very true! It also helps the fish if you wet your hands before you touch them.

So I've only ever fished for catfish and I want to try bass fishing what sort of lures or bait are good for bass fishing?

This all depends on where and under what conditions you are fishing for the bass. Is this river or lake? Is the water clear of stained? Is the water deep or shallow? Do you pay attention to when the bass feed? Have you talked to others who have fished the area you want to fish?

I fish a lake that I have fished for about 35 years. Each year conditions are a little different. To date this year every bass I have caught has been in shallow water along the shore line. I have caught about 30 bass and they have all been caught on top water lures. Pulled most of them out of grass and off wood along the banks. As best you can pay attention to the natural forage the bass hit. Try to get lures that imitate it in shape and color. Good luck!!

Morning, I'm using a chatter bait for the first time, what's the best way to fish it.

Remember this is a sub-surface lure. Fish it parallel to the bank. Fish banks with cover: grass, wood, pads.
When the lure hits the water, let it fall for about five seconds. [ I find this best with a 3/8 oz. lure on 12 lb. line. ] The lure may drag bottom to start with, but once you start bringing it in, it will come up off the bottom. About every 8 seconds, raise your rod and draw it back towards you. This will make it chatter and draw the fish's attention. I always use a trailer (It usually comes with one. ) , and I spray the skirt and trailer with bass attractant. Good Luck!

I started fishing very recently, about a month back. I started with a $20 spinner reel from walmart and a week in bought a $90 lews baitcaster combo. I recently tried using the $20 rod again and it felt like true torture. My question is, do diminishing returns exist in the fishing domain? If I invest in a $500 baitcaster setup will it make my lews combo feel like as garbage as the $20 one does?

For that kind of money, it damn well better! Cheers.

Bring the rod up quickly, but do not pull in. Feel the fish on your line first. Then, pull it, and wind it in. Good luck!

Took eight bass with the Whopper Plopper yesterday. Doing lake fishing in southern Indiana. No real size to any of them. Fished from 5:30 to 11:30 A.M. It's always fun to get a surface hit.

I too like the Whopper Plopper. I like to get a 2 - 4 lb bass on a surface hit.

Please provide more facts about your catch. What type lure? What were the water conditions. Was the bass in oper water, agsinst wood, or in grass? What time of day was it? Were you in bright light, or was it overcast?

My firs of the year bass was 1.7 lbs. The water was about 65 degrees. Was the third week in April. I was in southern Indiana just across the Ohio River from Louisville, KY.
