No matter what service one is or was in the good ol saying if can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all. Pretty much same as do onto others as you want done onto yourself. It seems not too many really practice this anymore. Forgiveness is one thing but as far as forgetting… don’t count on it.

We have a saying, to err is human, to forgive is devine. Neither of which is Marine Corps policy. Just my 2 cents worth. LOL. My utmost respect to anyone who wore the uniform. No matter the branch.

Love all the memory's shared on this topic. The one thing that stood out on most of the stories is how we older folks went fishing by ourselves at an early age. I'm afraid those days may be gone unless you have a pond or lake on your property. Too scary out there to let a 5 or 6 year old go fishing my themselves. It's sad. And Just another reason I'm glad I'm older than dirt and was born in a different world. See ya on the water.

I noticed that Navy's helmets had "OOH RAH" on the back of them also. Wonder why they're all of a sudden claiming the Marine Corps. Ha Ha. Semper Fi Brother.

My finger dexterity has really deteriorated the past couple years. Arthritis
Tying knots takes a lot more effort than it used to
I am really anal about my knots.
If it don’t come together perfectly or it don’t look exactly like it should, I’m cutting and re tying.
I have been using more complex knots like the FG , Alberto, San Diego jam etc
Seems I’m doing a lot of re tying alot lately
Anyone else have problems with your fingers not doing what you want

I'm looking for a young person to ride in the boat with my buddy and me and they're soul job will be to retie for us when we break off. LOL

Light up the charcoal, throw on your swim trunks, crack a cold brew or seltzer. Maybe even set up those bottle rockets if you’re below the legal limit. It’s Independence Day—enjoy it.

Is it cliche to request that you also take a moment to remember what Independence Day is all about? To ask you to see this July Fourth through the eyes of a veteran?

I hope not, because that’s what I humbly ask of you.

The Fourth of July ostensibly represents America’s founding. As most know, July fourth, 1776, is the date that our Founding Fathers formally adopted the Declaration of Independence. It’s thought that the holiday took on a renewed importance in July of 1826, when both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams passed away on the same day—the 4th.

Over the years, Independence Day has become synonymous with the American Armed Forces. Active duty military, veterans, and their families understand the true cost of freedom. They understand that independence is far more than a word. It’s a sacrifice.

This July Fourth, more than any year in recent memory, warrants a deep consideration of our freedoms. In particular, you might consider just how fleeting those freedoms can be, and the moments throughout history during which they could have been lost.

Throughout our nation’s history, what has stood between imperious tyrants and our precious American way of life? Our veterans. Today, what protects you, me, and our nation’s delicate future from threats domestic and foreign? Active members of the Armed Forces.

Those who never served cannot fully appreciate the sacrifices of military service. That’s okay—you don’t need to. Those who signed up did so in order that you wouldn’t have to understand. All I ask is that, on this July fourth, you honor those who took the oath.

In 1917. In 1941. In 1950. In 1965. In 1990. In 2001. And in every year before, in between, and since, all the way back to 1776. Every single veteran and active military member deserves our consideration and appreciation.

As you sip that Stella or Sprite, watch the fireworks explode in resplendent fashion, and lap up a day of leisure, remember why you’re celebrating. Tip a cap or pour one out for all those who made, and continue to make, the celebration possible.

At least 645,596 veterans have died in combat since the end of the Revolutionary War. Countless more veterans have lived bearing the visible and invisible wounds of war.

And, while our nation’s most high-profile conflicts have simmered down, for now, American active-duty military personnel continue to face great danger throughout the world.

On Independence Day, I ask that you honor these living and deceased members of the Armed Forces as you see fit.

Talk to your kids about it. Reserve a moment of silence. Heck, have an extra hot dog or burger for those who took the Oath of Enlistment.

Pay tribute in your own way. And, by golly, make the most of the day. The honorable men and women in uniform demand nothing less.

I've been trying to fish blue gill lately and its not going very well, yesterday I watched the bobber go under 12 times and didn't manage to hook a single one. I tried three different hook sizes different baits hooked up in various ways, tried setting the hook right away, letting it wait for a second and in-between. They're definitely bites because the bobber fully submerged so I'm not trying to set the hook on imaginary fish. Does anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong? I haven't had this problem with any other fish so I'm kinda lost. Any tips would be very much appreciated

I've had that problem in the past and my feeling was I had slack in my line. Reel up any slack as quickly as possible until you feel pressure, then cross his eyes. LOL

I’m in a blue Lund bass boat Stop and say hi if you see me.

Went to Cowen last week and caught over 200 crappie. The bad news was only 52 were keepers. Ya might give Cowen a go. Caught most of them in 7-4 feet of water.

Nice. Wanted to get out this weekend but wind is howling.

If the wind ever drops and the rain does too Ben, try Acton Lake at Hueston woods. You can catch crappie all day, ya just have to get past the short ones. My neighbor and I went last week, we probably caught close to 60, but only cleaned 15. It's sort of like fishing for perch and blue gills, ya got to get past the little guys to find keeper size fish. If ya don't already know, it's a 10 HP limit lake, but you can use the big guy as long as you keep it to an idle. see ya on the water Ben, good weather is getting closer.

I just bought a jig mold pouring setup and now I need to find some good sources for buying lead. Just wondering if anyone has any tips where I can buy the purest lead for the least amount of money. I do understand I can melt sinkers and weights that I find or have already but for now I’m looking to start with quality pure lead. Thanks!

Go on line to Roto Metals .com. They sell all kinds of lead, shot, bars, and sheets. Price is not too bad, but the delivery is fairly quick. Hope it helps. See ya on the water.

Went fishing this morning and caught about 10 crappie. Better than that caught a new PB for large mouth bass. First one was 6 lbs and 7 oz.—largest I had ever caught. But it got better; next one was 8lbs and 11oz. Best day ever catching bass. Caught 3 others that were 3 to 4 lbs each.

WOW, just WOW. Thanks for the pics. I would have been happy with just the crappie. LOL
