Looking back through old posts and came across yours. Wondering the latest on your plans. We leave on June 10th. Word from our outfitter was their cabin on Chase had flooded out. They had to move us to their place on Nance Lake. Don't know anything about Nance but was our only option, other than to put the trip off for another year. Just wondering your thoughts, and what you may have heard recently about conditions, etc.

Sounds like we will be on Chase the week before you, 6/12 - 19. We booked with Walsten's, so we may be in the cabin you mentioned that was the "poorer" of the two. Have never been there, so can't really say. The cabin we're in sleeps 10, has indoor showers, outdoor johns. Looking forward to the trip, fishing and all.Hope the weather and the flies/skeets are somewhat tolerable. Either way, we know what to expect and will be prepared.

Yes, I've been to their website many times. I was looking more for tips and advice from others who have been on trips like this recently, especially if they've been to Walsten's camps, and anything outside of the norm that they might have to offer. Appreciate your response, just the same.........

Thanks, good advice and appreciate the tips on where to fish and what you used. Also about the cabin. I'll have to follow up on that. I may hit you up with some other questions yet, as we get closer to departure. Also, we'll be flying into Winnipeg and taking a shuttle over to Kenora and back. The drive would have taken us a couple of days and the others couldn't fit it into their schedules. Groceries will have to be purchased locally in Kenora, along with our licenses, etc. Wouldn't make sense (cents) for us to buy stuff in Idaho and then pay the airlines for the extra bags. Hope we can find at least the basics in town before we leave. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. - Dave

Have booked a June trip with Walsten Outpost Camps based out of Kenora, Ontario. Seven of us will be flown to their cabin on Chase Lake to spend the week fishing mainly for walleyes and northerns. I know to bring good rain gear, bug dope, camera's, and what fishing gear will work best. What I'd like to get from you folks is any advice or tips on other things to bring along, based on your similar experiences, that I may otherwise not have thought to bring along. Two of us are older geezers in our 70's, two are teens, and the other 3 are 40-50 yo's. Anything you could offer along those lines would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, all........

PS: also, since this is our 1st trip with Walsten's, anything you know about your experiences with them that you care to share would be great, too.

Diamonds...... is what I offer. We both love to catch a good game if there's one in town, and they usually end early enough that being on the water at daybreak is no problem.

Would like to hook up with an outfitter in the Lincoln City area. Any species, really, since the other 3 are not really serious fisherman and are more just along for a new adventure. Any recommendations ?

Any of the high mountain lakes in Idaho would be options. Cell service would be unlikely. Best to just leave the phone in your rig and not have to pack it in anyway. No service, no use carrying it around. Lake choice depends on your physical conditioning. Most lakes have trails into them, but the distance and the condition of the trails can be a limiting factor. USFS manages most trail systems and they simply don't have the budget they once had to maintain all of them on a regular basis. Check with IDFG and the USFS offices in the area you'd be interested in. June is still early for some of the lakes. They may still have ice and trail crews may not have cleaned them up yet. I'm a fisheries biologist and was detailed for a while to the back country east of McCall, Idaho for a few years. Lots of great options around. Also worked two years in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. You'd be hard pressed to find any waters within that huge area that wouldn't produce a good mess of cutthroats and/or rainbows for the effort you put in. Fantastic areas to see elk, moose, muley's and whitetail, too, and if you're lucky, to see a wolf or mountain lion. The scenery is awesome, too. You can PM me, too, if you decide to go and have targeted a specific area or water. I'd be glad to tell you what I know, or give you some contacts who could help you out. Good luck.

Haven't fished Honeoye since the mid 70's when I lived in Canandaigua. Good to see that it's still producing good messes of fish. Nicely done, thanks for sharing.......

I have reservations for June to fish with an outfitter based out of Kenora, Ontario. Just heard from him yesterday. Said his sources are telling him that the border will be re-opened in late-March, April. I'm hoping that's true since our trip was supposed to come off last June and never did. I've got to think it's likely to be open, too, because all the outfitters and related businesses really can't afford to face another season of lost business from the Yankee side of the border. We'll see, I guess. You received some good advice already from others Lake Oahu in South Dakota, Sakakawea in ND, and Flaming Gorge Res. in Wyoming, Lake Powell in Southern Utah/Nev all are good choices for the do-it yourself. Tons of other places to, too many to list. Start with the F&G offices in the states you're interested in. They're always more than happy to steer folks to good waters; they like to brig in those NR license dollars. Good luck with your search..........

Anyone fishing around this part of Idaho? Would love to know where to go and what to use.
Bass fished a lot in Texas, now in Idaho and completely lost...lol

Live in Boise and fish around the state often, more in the fair weather since I've gotten older (bones just don't seem to oil up as easily as they once did)......April - October. You already received some good tips regarding Salmon Falls, CJ and Am Falls. Depending on what you're after there are a slew of other waters around within a reasonable < 2hr. drive from TF. I've found that the local IDFG offices (Fish and Game) are very helpful and will provide some good advice and recommendations on where to fish and what the reports have been on where they're catching them. Also, Sportsmans Warehouse (in the mall on the north end of town)has a board right as you walk in that has a list of where they're biting, what they're cathching, and what they're catching them on. They update the board weekly, so that's as good a place as any to start. From shore or from a boat, they're always biting somewhere. If you want to give ice fishing a try, for the next couple of months or so, you have some options there, as well. Again,IDFG and Sportsmans can help you there, too. Good luck and welcome to Idaho........

Best to ask your state Fish and Game Department, Enforcement Division, specifically. They are the administrators of the rules governing fishing in public waters, not the local PD.
