Great pictures! Nice fish! Bet they gave you a great fight!
I will take a northern pike over a small mouth or large mouth bass anytime when it comes a fight on rod and reel! Also when it comes to eating deep fried pike is just as good a walleye!

Slime dogs which are northern pike are one of the best tasting fresh water fish if you know how to clean them!
They are just as good as walleye, crappies and bluegill. Best ones to keep and fillet are between 24 and 30 inches!
I wear rubber gloves that have a rough texture on them so I have no problem holding on to them when cleaning and them I just wash off my gloves when done! Like I said if you haven’t tried deep fried northern pike you don’t know what you’re missing!

Caught one like that 47 years ago and kept it. It has aged some now but what do you expect after 47 years! Believe I’ll just keep the one I have because I got this one broke in and don’t think I could afford to break in another one! 😂🐟

Too bad you didn’t take a video of the slob and his license plate throwing out the thrash!
You could send it to the dnr and they would look him up and give him a big fine that he deserves!

Reminds me of the good old days! Hooked my personal best back then 47 years ago! Put her on the stringer and haven’t let her go since! It’s been a pretty good catch so far so I just keep her around!

Try potters lake in Sunset marina in Rock Island! Lots of people fish from shore there and catch multiple species of fish there!

Dreadpirare: I fish lake George and when I fish for walleye I use leaches under a slip bobber along the edge of the dike and spillway about a foot off the bottom! As for striper I haven’t fished for them but have seen people catching them on chicken livers! You might also catch a catfish at the same time! Good luck and tight lines!

Congrats! We have these skipjacks here on the Mississippi also and we also call them moon Eyes!
Not worth eating because the are a very boneyards fish! But good for cut bait for catfish! They seem to eat anything smelly and bloody! Good luck fishing the rest of the season and keep the pictures rolling! 🐟

Nice rig Ben, I have a new boat coming in a couple of weeks also! Sold my old 1997 Sylvan bass boat that I had for nearly 10 years! Was a great boat and caught a lot of fish out of it! I have been retired for 7 years now and I had a great opportunity to purchase a new 2021 Skeeter Solera 189 fish and Ski with a 200hp Yamaha VMAX Sho and all the bells and whistles! Quit a differents going from a 40hp motor to 200hp motor but I have twin boys with 10 grand children and figure we will get plenty of use out of the new one fishing and pulling the kids around on tubes and skis! Will post pictures of my new boat when it arrives! If I can figure out how to attach them to the site! If I can’t I am positive my grand kids can show me!😂 Good luck fishing with your new boat and enjoy your retirement!

Anybody been fishing Lost Grove????

Bartthefart

I live in Illinois on the other side of the river from Iowa and fish Lost Grove lake!
It’s a fantastic lake for fishing! Couldn’t ask for a better lake to fish that has so much
Structure for the fish habitat! Standing timber, weed lines, sand and rock shores!
Ice fished this winter over there a few times and did well!
