I own Hobie PA 12 and Old Town 120 PDL. Both are very good kayaks, but with 2 different drive systems. So you should go with what feels best and will cover the situations you fish in. This past weekend I did a 2 day tournament with winds of 20mph and gusts much higher. I had no problems in my Hobie, as it handled the rough water. A lot of Old Towns also did well. I prefer the Hobie for 2 reasons...1. being short you have to be close to the pedals and limits the space between your seat and the drive system. 2. Even though both are 36" wide the design of the Hobie gives me 6" more width inside to stand. Like I said it all comes down to what you are comfortable in.

Went out right when it was getting light. The top water bite was off the chart. Caught my PB smallmouth (19.25"/3lb3oz). Next cast I got a largemouth (18.25"/3lb4oz). Before 9:30 I caught 12 bass all above 14 in. Lost something big ( could have been a pike ), took off like a freight train. Practicing for my up coming tournament, so back out tomorrow morning and lets see if I can duplicate it

I am thinking about jumping into a Kayak Bass Fishing Tournament in that area on October 23. I am able to fish any of these waters: Lake James Big Otter Lake Little Otter Lake Snow Lake Upper Basin Middle Basin LowerBasin Jimmerson lake. Just wondering if one is better than any other at that time of year. Thanks in advance for any responses.

I wear Shimano Evair boat shoes. I also use their boots when the water temp is below 60.

Have 3 Ugly Sticks that used for my son when he first started out, one is over 20 yrs old. I have never had any issues. My GX2 is pretty sensitive for a low grade rod and works great.

On my home lake Caesar Creek
This is the deepest lake in Ohio and is STEEP!!
Any way , I marked a ton of waypoints on a cove I call finger points.
Area is maybe acre and a half and 4 points kinda converge.
Depth at 10 fr from bank is 8 ft
Depth at moderate cast is 30 ft

These points are loaded with submerged laydowns and stumps

Gonna give her a try next time out.
I’m thinking early shallow to 12 ft weed less wacky senko and a fat free shad ,
Come 9:00 back off and hit with a swim jig and chunk and a Tokyo rig
Make another pass deeper with a big T rigged worm

What would you do?
I got an area I’ve been wanting to explore. br On... (show quote)

I would also throw a crankbait if possible. Also slow roll an underspin with different Keitech baits. Megabass also makes a nice 4" plastic shad bait(Hazedong). Good luck I am sure you will catch them.

Easier to get a used wave runner trailer, you can then stack the two.

I am not familiar with that body of water, but it looks like the tips and your persistence paid off with great fish.

I think we have all been there. I lost 4 nice ones on Saturday. Then other days you fish completely clean and can do no wrong. Love the pictures, keep those coming. Continued success...

I have an 85 pound Old Town Sportsman PDL 12 feet that I lift onto my Ford Focus sedan. I am 73 and have had no accidents. Yet. I have a Malone cradle rack that straps onto the car and has suctioning also.

I use the Rhino Rack T Loader (can see video on youtube) which works great for my Hobie Pro Angler 12 or my Old Town PDL 120 onto my Subaru Outback. The height adjustment of the T bar for your vehicle will work out very nicely for you. It is worth the $300 and can get at at Etrailer.com

Last I heard, Kent Lake in Oakland County has a "DO NOT EAT" order due to some local industrial pollution. I had fished the lake for many years but that order was the end for me. It may be open now but I have moved my fishing to other areas. BTW, I drove by yesterday and did not see anyone fishing or boats on the water.

I fish Kent Lake all the time since it is 10 min from where I live. I disagree with that report on the walleyes. The ban for not eating the fish is now in its 5th or 6th year. The pike have taken over the lake and they manage it very poorly. For the past few years they use chemicals constantly for weed control which is also hurting the fishing. I was there yesterday and the pike are a nuisance. Plus the water is still down 3 feet with only one boat launch available. This lake has been on the decline for several years now. I love to fish so it is easy to dump my kayak in and figure it out daily.

Agreed. The Fat does have more roll and bulk.
Love em both and use them for different things depending on if I want bulk or not.
All the lengths have applications for me
Ayu color is killer

I have used these the last 2 weeks and I am sold. I used to throw more strike king or berkley. I have used just about every color and rigged them many different ways. I just ordered enough to last me a long time. Between these and Megabass I am stoked for the fishing season.

Finally got the new kayak on the water yesterday. Being a business owner is killing my fishing time lol. Big shout out to Mr Bragg for pointing me to the Megabass line. I did not catch anything of any size, but I caught Crappie, Pike, and small LGM bass. Fought the 15mph wind but was nice to get out there. I know those lures are very expensive, but I never missed one hook up. For anyone that really likes the Megabass line up check out: thehookuptackle.com. They have the largest selection of MegaBass products and even carry those that are normally only offered in Japan. Stay safe out there and wet those lines.
