I don't know about the dredging, But hopefully not again this year. Most of the successful fishing stories have been in the back waters or in the shallow areas of the Raritan Bay. I think these fish are coming out of the ocean quickly And looking for warm brackish water. I have not spoken spoken to anyone who has fished the tip of the hook yet. When the beach and the tip of the hook become more active I will gladly post. Good luck

Thank you, same here, tight lines!

Nice Striper Jaime! Heard they are doing well in Raritan Bay. I typically fish sandy hook point or IBSP (mostly unsuccessfully on the latter). Any news from the point, figure they must be coming through for the spawn? Dredging operations again this year?

Went back to Island Beach State Park with the family again last week and picked up a striper off the surf. Hit Raritan Bay yesterday and hooked my personal best, my buddy did pretty good too! Caught on mojo’s trolling in 25’ of water. Didn’t measure or weigh unfortunately. Caught 4 total, all were safely released.

Nice. I expect you were using clam bellies?

I was. Tried plugging for a while with no success so “drowned” some salted clams and picked em up!

Hooked them right around sunset right?

Yes, between 7-730. Tide was coming back around the sandbar further out

Went to Island Beach State Park this past Sunday for some surf fishing with the family. Fished about 5 hours without a bite. Most of the beach cleared out then hit two stripers in about 20 minutes followed up by a dogfish. Both short, 22” and 24” (6.5 lbs) but still a great day. Had my cheerleaders with me. Heading back out tomorrow for another go.

Tetons are great! Was out last summer with the camper. Pizza place that looks like movie theater in Jackson has great food, Chewbacca Pizza! Got a fishing charter on Yellowstone lake. Five of us for three hours, $200. Wife caught a beautiful 5lb cutthroat and my youngest pulled in a smaller one. Enjoy your trip and post pics!

Check in with “On the Water”. They have fishing reports specific to NJ and the Striper migration map updated on a weekly basis. Good info. I will be heading to IBSP in the near future, let you know how it goes.

Simms Freestone. A little pricey but worth the money. Have stocking foot with orvis neoprene boots. Wore just the waders in 45 degree water without the boots for two hours with no issues,...the couple of drinks may have helped!

[quote=FS Digest]I went out the afternoon for the last day

I’ve been reading the replies to your post. First and foremost, very well worded and left nothing to question. Secondly, I’m happy to see that the general consensus is that you did the right thing and thirdly, the Trooper also has discretion to issue a summons or not. Therefore, if what he was doing was an honest mistake and he was able to articulate that properly,...there is the possibility that he was not issued a summons. Bottom line is we are responsible as sportsmen to follow the rules that give us an equal playing field. They may not always seem right but they are there for a reason, (even if it is monetary benefit which may help preserve the fishery). You did the right thing, thanks for an interesting post that created a worthy discussion!

Didn’t the season end Dec 15th for stripers? Catch and release is still ok

Dec 31st, then all waters closed to striper fishing except for Atlantic Ocean from zero to three miles out, not clear if that includes surf or not, too cold anyway, it’s ski season!

Yourpassnow.com then select island beach state park. About 195. Allowed to have your 4x4 on the beach and have a fire as long as you are fishing. Never had one before but the idea appeals to me. Thinking of getting one of those small truck bed tents for short breaks in the action
