Where can I get a surf fishing report for my are I am in Ventura ca

Have been away from fishing for about 3 years due to health but am getting better and would like to surf fish near Ventura county beaches. Before getting sick I was just getting into surf fishing and would like to get back in . I am a 71 year old (old surfer) and need my time near the water and would like any advice where to go that has easy access. To good surf fishing and how to catch fish ? Thanks Gary old surfer

Recovering from surgery right now and can't get out there yet. I was doing very well off the Oxnard beaches for a while. Started trying spots more north but haven't really connected with any hot spots. I know there are some just haven't located them yet. I used to go out on my fishing boat but it got to be too much for me so I sold it and discovered perch fishing. Lots of fun and they are good eating as well.

I am in thousand oaks and sure would like to know where that spot is. I usually go to ventura beach but the fish are much smaller there.

That makes me feel better. I was doing well at the Oxnard beaches until the winter storms came through and then all the fish went away. any other spots you can recommend?

I used to go out to the channel islands and target the bigger fish and ignore the smaller pan size fish but I just got tired of all the work and expence and decidided to try shore fishing for surf perch . I live in southern calif and fish from ventura to santa barbera. trying to find the best spots for the bigger ones but have yet to do better than pan size. I scale them, gut and de head them and fry them in olive oil a d salt and pepper. I don't bother filleting them as it wasts too much meat. And boy t=do they taste good. Lingcod used to be my favorite but the sweet taste of the surf perch has such a fresh taste. I m not sure how many I can eat in a week

I have the same question. I have a pair of boot style waders that are a little heavy and have rubber boots. They work ok for launching a boat but are kind of heavy and cumbersome for surf fishing. I also have stocking type bootie style dry type waders but am not sure how to determine what size boot to buy to fit the stocking into? Should I just take the waders to Dicks sporting goods as that is all I have out here ?

I just started surf fishing this last summer. I bought a lite spinning reel and 8ft pole and has great success at first. I had so much fun that I sold my ocean boat and started going to the different beaches looking for the fish and learning how to read the beaches. But this early winter rains and storms ( which I am very thankful for seem to have displaced all the surf perch. Is there a certain time of year for surf perch or a way to find where they have gone. I haven't been able to get out yet this winter due to health issues but as long as I can talk to real perch fisherman ,I can learn all I can until I can get out there.
