Depends what your fishing for. Just start reeling and the fish will hook its self. Most people pull too hard and pull the hook out, especially bad with sea trout and their soft mouth.

Not trying to be sarcastic, but if that is the way you perceive my post, I apologize... I have found a product I like. I tried power pro and was a bit disappointed. Now I spool with line I'm happy with.

Your post was fine. My reply was to redneck

I am in Venice Florida fishing for Bass in a pond backing on to our home. I have tried different Lures and worms to no avail . I fish in morning & late afternoon usually .Is there something i should be doing or using to increase my chances to catch Bass? After, i try catching Talapia , they are jumping all over the place , I use worms mostly for them but again to no avail . Any suggestions ?

Regards Terry

The jumping fish are probably mullet, tilapia don't do that. Tilapia are grass feeders and usually don't bite anything. For the bass I would try live bait. If your pond is brackish you might have salt water fish there and live bait (shrimp white bait) would reveal them. Lived and fished in Florida for 45 years both fresh and saltwater

Do you fish in China ?

A sarcastic comment, but I understand. Power Pro is manufactured by Shimano and they are located in Japan. Not much difference. Most would like to buy American made but you tell me what company that would be. I figure I'm cutting out the middle man.

So now you're doing commercials. I buy my braid from China. So much cheaper and with the same qualities you want. You want to throw longer, downsize your line from 50 to 20 or even 12. All braid is thinner than mono and stronger. You're paying for the name if you buy Power Pro

Looking for info on places to fish, no boat yet, Jan-Mar on Charlotte Harbor and what fish would be in the Harbor during those months.

We had red tide most of the summer that killed off many of the fish. Snook and redfish are catch and release if you can find them. Best places could be along the eastern shorelines in north matlacha pass. If you're new here your best bet would be trout fishing. Anywhere there is a drop-off in moving water, fish the drop-off. No one can predict where the fish will be and half the fun of fishing is exploring the water. Get a chart of Charlotte Harbor, it will keep you off the sand bars and show you likely areas to fish. Shrimp is the bait of choice this time of year and the fishing will be slow. Most of the larger game fish have moved South for the winter and won't return until April/May. Remember it's called fishing not catching so get out and enjoy the water.
