Being past middle age a couple of my friends warned me kayaks are a younger mans toy, but because I know everything I bought one anyhow! The second time I went out fishing in it for about two hours and when I came to shore I could hardly get out of it. Luckily it was a sit on top model that I could just slide off of. There is something about sitting in an L for hours that didn't agree with my back or legs. I let my wife try it out and she loved it. I told her if she could pick it up and put it on her car she could have it. I sold it the next week for a little more than I paid for it. That was 2020 now I bought a 15'-6" canoe, I had to modify the rack on my car but I think this might be more comfortable for me, not to mention I will be a lot dryer! Nobody told me the sit on top kayaks have a number of wholes all the way threw to the passenger??? What are they for? Just to make sure your butt gets wet? The water temperature of Lake Minnetonka today is 41 degrees!

This link might give you a little inside in Old Hickory Lake and might put you in touch with people that fish it.

Bowfin mud fish, mud pike, dogfish, griddle, grinnel, swamp trout, and choupiqueare a good fighting fish. From what I heard they will eat most anything. I have caught a couple of them fishing of the dock on Minnetonka, this one hit on my sucker minnow. I hear them barking a lot in the back water on shallow muddy bays. I guess that's from their ability to gulp air? From what I have read they are actual dinosaurs dating back to the Jurassic period or 200 million years ago.

Just wanted to say "Thanks" for all the positive responses this post received! The northern posted above is from 2018, but the ice pushing up the boat launch is from this weeks official ICE OUT on Lake Minnetonka. It will be a few more days before anyone will be able to use this boat launch. It's amazing what a 30-40 mile an hour wind will do.

My first thought is the Lake-Link website, just google Lake-Link, go to the search bar on Lake-Link website, type in Idaho and when the state map appears pick on the county your thinking about fishing in. There should be a number of lakes listed for that county. Pick on one of the lakes and see what it has to say. After picking on a few different lakes you should run into comments made by fishing people in that area. It may take a while but with a little effort you will get advice from locals that will clue you in on where what and how to fish some of the local lakes. GOOD LUCK and don't believe everything they tell you. After doing this myself I find that there isn't a lot of people posting much about the lakes I picked on ... It may take a little longer than I thought. Here is a link to the lake I fish in Minnesota just to show you what it might look like if the people in Idaho want to be social

Having a Cfish underwater camera, the fun is seeing and recording the fish. I made 3 trips out for about 4 hours per trip and I might have caught 10-12 sunfish in the 12 hours I spent staring at the two holes, no Bass, no Northern and no Walleye. The camera is just a good way to get frustrated watching fish ignore your bait. It doesn't help you catch any more fish but it is fun to see what is down there. Technology is just another toy to make us feel like we know what we are doing. If you want to catch fish, fish a lake that has fish, use live bait and the number 1 thing is to be persistent.

Thanks for the post with photos. Hundreds if not thousands of fish are still swimming and ready to be caught again because lots of us don't feel like cleaning fish after a long day of fishing. Byerly's and Lund's have fish already cleaned, just rinse and throw them in the pan. Yesterday, 3-30-2021 was the official ICE OUT on Lake Minnetonka, I didn't realize the ice was actually getting out of the lake! The photos are of the boat launch on Spring Park Bay taken the day before the official Ice out. The boat launch is still out of action and will be for a couple more days I think! March 29th is the earliest I ever got my boat in the water. I think I will wait another week or two this year.

Be nice or be quite? Is that the rules on this sight or just the rules for people that say things you don't like? Don't tell the truth if it will offend someone? There must be some thin skinned posters if they are OFFENDED by and ABSURD post from someone they don't even know and will probably never meet. I don't post or read the posts to make friends. This is a lot like facebook for fishing people. Just another gossip column for people trying to feel like what they say means something, or they have friends. A friend is someone that will help you when you need it, or someone you actually do things with. Odds are very few of the people on this site will ever meet anyone else on this site. If you don't want your info stolen don't post it on line.... you have been warned.

I have a 1978 Hummingbird Depth/Fish finder and a Cfish underwater camera. Neither are very high tech but it sure is fun to watch the fish swim past my camera. I saw literally thousands of fish in the 3 times I went out this winter and only caught a dozen or so sunfish. Without the under water camera I wouldn't waste my time going out on the ice. It's the view that makes it worth while.

In Minnesota we call 41 degrees spring. Holloween 1991 we got 28" of snow, 2 days later we got another 18". It was on the ground until the middle of April the following year. The record cold for Minnesota was in a town called Tower. The ambient air temperature was -60 F and the wind chill was near -90 F. I am sorry for the loss the Texan's endured but to put things in perspective, over the 15-year period 2004–2018 Arizona, California, and Texas account for approximately one third (3,852; 37%) of heat-related deaths among U.S. residents. Far more people will die this year in Texas from heat related illness than were taken out by the cold last winter. Power failure in the summer could be a real catastrophe!
I was in Houston from October to March in about 2008. October sucked, it was 85 degrees with 80% humidity. EVERYONE was dripping with sweat and stunk.... 2" of snow in January and it shut down the highway system. It looked like bumper cars on the side streets with no one knowing how to drive in it. When I left in March it was 72 degrees, and went to Hibbing MN where it -32 F and people know how to dress for the cold. The middle photo with the geese was taken in the middle of April a few years back

The technology that is diminishing the fishing is 99% of the youth have no interest in fishing unless it's a video game. Try to get a millennial away from their electronics to go admire the beauty of being out on the lake.
GOOD LUCK!

When I am doing 70 MPH in a 55 and get pulled over I deserve the $120.00 ticket. When I was told not to lick the aluminum I cube tray, and when I did it anyhow I deserved to get my tongue frozen to it. When I was told not to drink at the high school dance but I did anyhow, I deserved to get grounded. When they say don't use credit cards at gas pumps or put that information on line and you do......you get what you deserve as crappy as that sounds, you still get what you deserve.
