In Minnesota we call 41 degrees spring. Holloween 1991 we got 28" of snow, 2 days later we got another 18". It was on the ground until the middle of April the following year. The record cold for Minnesota was in a town called Tower. The ambient air temperature was -60 F and the wind chill was near -90 F. I am sorry for the loss the Texan's endured but to put things in perspective, over the 15-year period 2004–2018 Arizona, California, and Texas account for approximately one third (3,852; 37%) of heat-related deaths among U.S. residents. Far more people will die this year in Texas from heat related illness than were taken out by the cold last winter. Power failure in the summer could be a real catastrophe!
I was in Houston from October to March in about 2008. October sucked, it was 85 degrees with 80% humidity. EVERYONE was dripping with sweat and stunk.... 2" of snow in January and it shut down the highway system. It looked like bumper cars on the side streets with no one knowing how to drive in it. When I left in March it was 72 degrees, and went to Hibbing MN where it -32 F and people know how to dress for the cold. The middle photo with the geese was taken in the middle of April a few years back

we are still payin for it
all my plants in the yard are either dead or cut to the ground and hope they come back
oak tree in front yard is continually shedding
I cant keep up raking the leaves
pine tree next door shedding all its needles and cones
lots of em on my yard
we were fortunate during the ice storm
had intermittent power and never lost water
did get cold when power was off 13 hours
lotsa folks weren't as lucky
frozen pipes bad water or no water,no power for hours and hours
some froze to death

lotsa dead fish in coastal salt water
dunno bout local fresh water
haven't been to lake
if damn wind will get below 25 miles an hour mayhaps we will get to go

We lost power AND water for 3 days in the north Austin area because of the big freeze.

The news reported that the water pumps were turned off to save the equipment but they did not report this to their customers until after their lawyers concocted a statement when power was restored.

To add insult to injury, some residents received bills for over $1000 because of “computer glitches that could not be foreseen”. Those erroneous bills caused even more stress to the situation.

We were happy since moving to Texas a couple of years ago BUT the state needs to get over the arrogance and do what is right for its residents.

Things seem to have returned to “the new normal” in the Austin area.
When our Governor removed the State lock-down and turned it over to the counties & cities, some interpreted that as the masks & cautions were completely removed. They are probably the same people that have trouble spelling “COVID”.

The Houston area was also hit pretty hard as well.
