I find the best way to find ponds/lakes around me is to go on google maps and zero in on my location and look for them.
If the pond has no vegetation at all I don't feel the fishing is going to be to great.

I would not use swivels on a spinner bait, it would tend to want to roll. The use of a cross lock is preferred.
