Been kinda slow up here in Clearlake California since the beginning of the year. Water seems really low for this time of year. Weather is starting to warm up and itā€™s still winter... gotta get out and catch me some

I'm back from the lake and we had a pretty good day. We caught bout 27 or 28 but should have caught more. Caught about a dozen on a ned rig ,several on a drop shot rig and the rest on small swimbaits. I only caught 11 and my partner caught all the rest. I think he caught 16 or 17. Only kept 1 for a dinner later this week. Just 2 pics. The 1 I kept and 1 big smallie.

A three years ago when moving to Clearlake I invested in a Lews. Itā€™s a great reel for bass fishing. Switched to a bait caster for about a year but back to my Lews spinning reel

Now that is quite a view. Thanks for sharing. Were you affected by the fires over there a few years back? I used to work with a guy who lived over in that direction, worked in Santa Rosa, who got burned out, lost his house and all his belongings. He lives up by Pollock Pines now.

Yes Spirit we have luckily survived through the last four fire seasons and this years Public Safety Utility Shutdown unscathed. The fishing is fantastic with a boat or from shore and docks. 2019 the bite has been a little light. Saw an increase of smallies this year but the lunckers are still out there waiting to be caught. Iā€™ve been told that the lake is going through itā€™s natural cycle old growth and new growth with some huge catfish being caught. Mid-July I landed a nice 13lb cat using plastic bait. And I hear that the crappie have started to bite a little early this year.
Looking forward to 2020... with Tight Lines

HPR do you live over there on the lake? I've been through there many times on my way to the coast, but I've never fished it. I used to correspond with a retired state trooper who lived over there and would share pictures of the catfish he caught off of his back porch. Some 30 and 40 pounders. If you will, please go back to your profile and update your location? Thanks and welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the warm welcome Spirit... I have a beautiful lake view... so I canā€™t fish off my back porch. Had to make a decision if I wanted to live right on the lake or have a lake view. Mosquitoes and the the summer blue green algae steered us away from living right on the lake. Have a few friends that live right on the lake and fish from there docks all the time.

Fish all year long out here on Clearlake, California... always go out prepared for the whole array of fish Clearlake has to offer. Sometimes the bass just arenā€™t hitting... but I seldom come home ā€œskunkedā€. Last week not a bite on my plastics... so I threw some mini night crawlers out there and landed (28) nice size blue gillšŸ˜Š
