To many stinky catches getting skunked at Santa Ana river lakes. Catching trout here can be really difficult sometimes. Sitting there waiting for a bite relaxing and enjoying a day of fishing is all so great. Yet if you came to catch fish you might be upset when the bite is dead. Trying bait after bait rig after rig, short leaders to long leaders lower lb test line to using concoctions like garlic sauce from papa John’s pizza. When the bite is slow and your not catching fish. The best sure way to step it up is your going to have to work for them get yourself rigged up with light line and a white with gold speckled crappie jig tube style or squiggly tailed and toss it out far as you can and let it hit bottom then small jerks while reeling in super slow like about as slow as you possibly can changing up the amount of jerking you do while it’s dragging on the bottom. If it’s mossy than you’ll need to keep it just above the weeds. It’s going to have to go rt in front of there face so non stop casting is what it’s going to take. Drop shot for weedy bottoms. This is probably the #1 best method for catching trout at the lakes when there not hitting power baits.

Yep had to do it, went once again for the big contest they had on the 24th. After going there the previous 3 weekends and basically getting skunked, seeing how many fish we're planted in relation to what's been caught and the stocking they did before the event. I figured with the weather the new moon and the amount of fish in there, it would be wide open. Yet once again another shity day only getting 2. Only a hand full of people actually caught fish out of the 500 plus people fishing.
I have no idea who won the ternament and or with what size trout they won with but there were a lot of disappointed fisherman I'm sure of that. All in all I think the slow bite has to do with the recently made fast flowing inlet water that comes rushing in full time affecting each lake by creating a current so strong it pulls or sucks your lines perpendicular down along the shore. 1- Causing everyone to get tangled over each other. 2- Causing your bait to be forced downward no matter how long or short your leader is, since the current causes your egg sinker to roll until it stops and your bait just ends up swaying back and forth bouncing off an accross the bottom. So everyone's bait is on the bottom doesn't matter how long your leader is. I also noticed that the fish when caught don't put up much of a fight like there tired or sluggish. Not sure why that would be other than water not being cold enough or lack of oxygen. I don't know but obviously somethings not rt and I hear before they had such a large flow of water running through the lakes fishing was great. Any comments or opinions please reply.

From boat and shore haven't gone yet but plan to maybe this coming weekend since I hear there hitting. I'm sure there's people out there familiar with this so I thought I'd ask before going to the wrong spots and using the wrong set ups. Any suggestions on what to use, baits etc... locations and driving, parking and walking or hiking in would be greatly appreciated. I heard parking at the parking lot and leaving your car unintended for any length of time isn't good so what's the scoop on going fishing for strippers ninja style at night and or early am. What's the best time to go this time of year. Thank You!!

Chasing tuna really wow I lived in a house rt on the cliffs of Paliic Verdas Estates as a care taker, land scaper, handyman remodeling the kitchen and bathrooms in the 8 million dollar home for three months last summer and every day I watched over the ocean like a hawk my favorite thing was to watch school's of tuna boil of the coast with banoculars tearing up the water and the birds going nuts.

When would be the soonest you'd want to go. We can hunt for stripers half day and trout the other or vise versa. I might be able to get fresh caught shade before we went not sure I could keep them alive though but they would be fresh I can use my throw net at the place I go ninja fishing. 😁👍

Waiting for warmer nights before going back to Ninja Fishing. Still Looking for someone to go with tired of going alone.
After watching YouTube videos on stocking SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES had to go. Tried it the last 3 weekends and got skunked this last weekend and only picked up 2 N 3 the times prior totally REDICULOUS. -after watching there stocking videos on utube would make anyone want to go. No one was catching anything. I think they have there fish trained lol... yet wouldn't they want you to catch fish so you'll come back ?. So now I figure I'd better head to Irvine, Diamond Valley, or Corona. Yet I just got word that Irvine might actually be stocking is this correct? and it only cost 5 bucks to park 😁 Really. To think I'm going to river lakes, and here I'm paying $30 to catch #-&$...

Time to go again new moon madness. Couple weeks ago I went and for the first time I surprised a Mountain Lion. I came up out of the pipe and scared the shit out of him and a Turkey Vulture they both took off out of some trees about 40yrds away it was super dark about 11pm but when I popped up and heard the branches breaking and tree move I turned my flash light up there and saw the Turkey Volture flying out from the tree and just below him was the figure of a panther running a cross the top of the poured concrete. I thought maybe it was just a coyote at first yet coyote's don't break branches and run like a panther plus this was to big to be a coyote anyway. Shame my flashlight was only at less than half power figures. The eyes glowed red pretty awesome. I kept going and went fishing anyway even saw mountain lion tracks along the muddy shore that were the size of my palm. Kinda concerning didn't even get a bite that night and walking out was concerning but no more surprises. Was the 1st time ever actually seen a mountain lion down there while walking yet I've seen bob cats and another mountain lion as I was driving by the lake once run across the street. Tired of always going by myself need to find someone to go with me there's so much to enjoy were else can you go and see shade the size of blue gill popcorn out in the shore being chased by bass or catfish sharing on the surface chasing bait or crappie slapping the surface every were. Catching cats over 15 pounds and bass always over 4lbs crappie the size of a 5g bucket lid. Yet you have to work for it nothings ever easy it seems I've been going here for over 25 yrs I know the place pretty well.
