Curious to what folks deep fry their fish in smaller quantities (her and I) and keep it crisp. The one we have must be giving up as thermostat is all the way up but won't get to good temp. Thanks in advance.

Hey Mgiven, The best little fryer I have found for indoor frying with very little mess is the Presto Gran Pappy. The unit is tall enough that the oil doesn't spatter like using a cast iron skillet or even a fry daddy. I have purchased them from Walmart in the past for the best price and I found a used one on eBay. I have given them to both of my children also. They work great.
The one in the pics is at least 15 years old and I use it at least once a week. I just fried 2 pounds of bass fillets about an hour ago. Let us know what you end up with.

Hey Y, welcome to the stage. I haven't been out for a couple of weeks now but I did ok from shore in my pond from shore using live minnows from Presley's.
Your best options locally are probably Wildlife Prairie Park or Snakeden Hollow out by Victoria for public access. Here are a couple of pics from my last outing.
Hopefully you will find a spot that has some biting and will inform the group and post some pics.

Is anyone within range of the eclipse looking forward to it? We here will get about 92% coverage at 2:07.

The school is giving students and staff glasses. We will all be going outside to view the eclipse. Should be fun.

Hey mistred, coming to you from Horseshoe Bend Arkansas. Totality at about 1:55 and it was really neat. The temp went from 80° down to about 70° and looked like about 8:00pm central time. Here are a couple of pics.

Any reports if the white bass are beginning to run in the Udall area of Norfolk Lake. Planning my first fishing trip of the year This Monday or Tuesday, April 8 or 9, 2024 and would like to get some info.

Hey mw, log on to the AGFC app and get todays weekly fishing report. It may have info that you are looking for.
Welcome to the stage. I am heading to Horseshoe Bend in the morning for a week but don't know if I will be doing any fishing. Will check out the eclipse on Monday weather permitting and then check out some real estate in the Mountain Home area on Tuesday.
Good luck with your activities and post some pics of you get into the fish.

I checked on Westfield and they don’t sell for CA, they listed the states they represented and we weren’t there. Thanks for the tip!!

That is interesting but I understand.
Your best bet is to use an insurance broker. More options usually.

A few days ago I posted about living in CA, homeowners ins is expensive. How my ins went from $2500 to $8500 for this years premium from State Farm. My wife called an agent from farmers ins that is married to the lady who cuts my hair and he quoted us $4,000 less for the same coverage. I tried checking others online and without much luck including USAA because my dad was drafted into the navy in 1944 right after I was born and he was 31 years old married with 2 kids and a Federal Marshal. He spent 18 months on a destroyer tender as fire control. And they told me I’d need to have proof that he was a member of USAA and I don’t have any way of checking that out as he passed away in 1963 and my mom in 2010. I don’t even know if USAA was around in the 40s. I know the ads on TV say if you had a parent that served up you could be eligible??? Not that easy.

Hey Far, as mentioned a few days ago when you first posted about this problem, you need to get ahold of a broker that sells Westfield insurance. They are one of the best rated and most reasonably priced companies we found in our search for insurance coverage. We just signed up with them the first of February. They do not advertise like the overpriced companies that use sports people or high priced actors as spokespersons. They pass those savings on to us the consumers by not having that type of advertising. THINK ABOUT IT.
Hopefully they do coverage in your region.

Time to shop around for a different insurance company? And maybe a wood burning stove? Yikes, those bills are really high!!

Hey Kandy, our insurance provider up charged us for having a wood burning furnace with a masonry chimney. Safe as it can get.

West view from my living room. Much better than last night. Living in CA is expensive but the weather is worth it if you can afford it!! State Farm ins just let us know that our home owners ins would go from $2,500 per year to $8,500 per year. They are not writing Ca anymore in areas like mine. Last year we had to spend over $30,000 having a new roof and having trees trimmed and some landscaping taken out or they would cancel us. Gasoline close to $5 a gal. Electric bill approaching $500 per month, house is all electric. Natural gas wasn’t in alpine when we bought here in 78.

Hey Far, our insurance went up over 100% for this year so we shopped around and found a company that was an increase of only 25% and went with them for identical coverages. The problem I have with these companies is that they are paying actors and athletes millions to do advertising for them when in most states we are required by law to be insured. They need to quit spending money for celebrities to advertise for them whether it is the KC Chief players and coach or Mayhem man for Allstate and many others. Save the money and reduce our premiums.IMO
We are with a company named Westfield and they are rated one of the top companies in the US. They do no advertising and only work with top rated brokers.

Y'all got some fish.

Those are some nice ones but if you are looking for the crapps you may have to come a little west. I located 31 in a little over an hour on Thursday afternoon just before the weather front you are now enjoying today, passed through here in central Illinois. Turned into 8#'s 2 Oz's of fillets when I was finished. A week ago today I fished for 2+ hours without a bite.

I’m headed to Norfork Lake next weekend. I seldom get down there and was wondering how the bass were doing.

Hey Sbaner, I can't help much other than your best bet for current information is to go to the AGFC app and sign up for the weekly newsletter and fishing report. They are generally sent out on Wednesday and Thursday respectfully. I will attempt to screenshot the info I received yesterday and post it below. Good luck next week. Post some pics of your catch. Another idea is to contact Scuba Steve at Blackburn resort on lake Norfolk. I have a daughter trout fishing the White the next 3 days in the Flippin area. Enjoy the area.

Our local weather people missed our forecast a little Doug, we got no rain with the front going through last night and no snow overnight as predicted. Our temps did drop from a 78° high at 7 pm last night with a wakeup temp of 17° at 6 am this morning. High of about 30° today. Have a great day and enjoy the extra day tomorrow.

Good morning all. As you can see we are already having Spring like weather here. Hopefully I can get out this week. Had a little shower her and there since Friday night but has cleared out but still windy and cloudy. Heading out this morning for Church to give thanks just for life In itself. Have a great day all. Rejoice and be glad in it. Encourage yourself as well as others and smile laugh a lot.

That really looks pretty good all in all. We are going to have a 50° swing here on Tuesday from 73° high to 24° low. They are predicting some severe weather for us during the change in temps. We will batten down the hatçhes for sure. It is still winter.
