West view from my living room. Much better than last night. Living in CA is expensive but the weather is worth it if you can afford it!! State Farm ins just let us know that our home owners ins would go from $2,500 per year to $8,500 per year. They are not writing Ca anymore in areas like mine. Last year we had to spend over $30,000 having a new roof and having trees trimmed and some landscaping taken out or they would cancel us. Gasoline close to $5 a gal. Electric bill approaching $500 per month, house is all electric. Natural gas wasn’t in alpine when we bought here in 78.

Time to shop around for a different insurance company? And maybe a wood burning stove? Yikes, those bills are really high!!

" OUCH " is saying it lightly on those cost of living increases and here I thought my $ 200 increase was bad.

Thanks for the pick Fishandrods and best of luck with the Insurance.

Holy cow. That’s crazy. Check prices with Amica. USAA if you are a veteran or one of your parents served.

Jer, I have USAA and they are the ones that just raised mine $ 200. No where near do I have the surrounding like Fishandrods has.

Neighbors are complaining too on their increases. I got a feeling it is a nation wide affect to help pay for other locations disasters. Between Hawaii and the fires of Texas they have to be dishing out big bucks.

I have USAA also and received the same increase. But that’s a whole lot better than $6000.
Everything is going up and you know it won’t be coming down. Ugh!

Our HOA went up significantly too Jer.

Insurance on the common grounds and if someone trips on a crack in the side walk from $ 32K to to $ 64K. At least the increase got divided by 80 homes.

Quite possibly because of all of the litigation, some of which is frivolous.

The cedar fire in 2003 burned 280,000 acres and 280 homes and it got around 1/4 mile from my house down in a canyon. And 2 other fires were fairly close since the 03 fire, The larger ins companies my wife has checked with say they are no longer writing in CA. The only reason State Farm is covering us is because we are grand fathered in because of how many years we’ve been with them for our former business, house and vehicles we have. I think the increase is to hope we leave them. We had the same problem with our garage door company liability insurance in 03 with a $7,000 increase and it took a couple of months to find insurance and they put restrictions on doing all condominiums, and housing tracts over 15 houses, most companies weren’t covering company’s in the residential construction business because of the construction defects lawsuits. My company was included in numerous lawsuits even though they never had any problems with our products. Our ins company would pay thousands of $$$ just to get us out of the suit instead of fighting for us. They said it was cheaper!!! Good old CA cost of living!!!

NC wasn't much better Fishandrods. I at one time wanted to change from Allstate because of price increase to a local broker for a big name company. On the 29th day of their 30 day grace period I get a letter saying they can not insure my house because it would cost them if the house were to burn down the following day. Enclosed was a check minus 30 days.

I had already cancelled my Allstate and had 1 day to find another company or the house in hurricane country would be un insured. USAA came through with a policy that beat Allstate and the local guy and been with them ever since.

I had Allstate in the early 70s and someone broke into my work truck one night parked in my driveway where I was living at the time and stole some tools. And I called Allstate and told them a friend of mine said he knew who did it and they said they wouldn’t go after them because they were minors and it would be bad relations to have them convicted!!! BS. They covered the cost minus 50% because they were used? I told them that the hand tools were Craftsman and sears guaranteed them 100% for life. And they didn’t care. So we dropped Allstate after getting the money.

So much for " You are in good hands " as they advertised.

It was mid to late 70's if I recall correctly how leaving tools in the spot we were working and going to another spot to have lunch became not a good idea.

Even leaving tools in the pick up bed grew legs. And this wasn't neighborhood kids doing it, but other tradesmen. It seemed to be the start of drug money being acquired anyway they could.

Hey Man, I worked for a union door co I 1968 that one guy that worked there when we were on a commercial job he would look for something to steel. And one time we were on a small housing tract and he saw some big potted trees for the site and he wanted to put some on our trailer and take to his house. And I was driving so I said no way. He was also a volunteer sheriff after hours. His name was Weldon but we called him welfare. He was about 15 to 20 years older than me in my early 20s. He was the most useless person I ever worked with.
