From NC Wildlife Federation:

The biggest and most valuable fishery in North Carolina, the blue crab fishery, is on the verge of collapsing, if not collapsed. Where we used to land 50-60 million pounds, we’re now down to landing 10-15 million pounds.
We’re the only state with no pot limit. You can fish as many crab pots as you want, and you can catch as many crabs as you want, as long as you do it outside of the very small window when the fishery is closed.

Hi First post ! Moving to NC and have 2 boys that want to catch some fish.. we've tried but so far have been shut out. We've tried some frozen shrimp, various lures including some bass lures...no luck! any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm trying to keep these kids focused on the positive side of this move.

Gratefully Jim

Jim- Try fresh shrimp or live mud minnows in Adams Creek. Speckled trout & redfish abound.

Been here a week and the weather has not been nice to us. Finally got to fish under seven mile bridge out of the wind. Got our share of different species. Hog fish, Pork fish, Grunts, Yellow tail snapper. DNR came and checked us and let us know we could not catch Pork Fish on a hook. They were considered a tropicsl fish. DNR told me years ago as long as you keep them in a live well you were legal. Laws change. Put them all back along with the undersize Hog Fish and Yellow Tail. Got one we didn't know what it was so I'm open for your thoughts.
Been here a week and the weather has not been nice... (show quote)

Looks like you are catching a good variety. Check out Hogfish.

Beaufort NC that is.

Oceanana Pier reports good sea mullet, bluefish and black drum action.

Bogue Inlet Pier has been on and off. The daytime fishing is predominately puffers. If you want a cooler of sea mullet, you need to fish in the dark, and don’t forget the stingrays 2 x 2.

Seaview Pier, ditto with BIG mullet, puffers and black drum.

Surf City Pier reports big sea mullet at night, puffers and blues.

Jolly Roger Pier reports sea mullet and puffers but no report of blues yet.

Just got my new Center Console in July and been breaking it in. Ready to take her out this spring for Mahi, Tuna and Cobia specifically. Getting the rods ready and buying all new gear. I will be fishing with my wife and daughters! How far out does one typically have to go to fish for those three specific fish? And where are the best spots? Thanks.

Patrick

Tuna & Dolphin are caught in the Gulf Stream which is 35-40 miles from Morehead City. Cobia run 100 yards off Shackleford Banks in Spring.

Trout bite on Mirro Lures is strong now in Slocum & Clubfoot Creeks off the Neuse River. May get some stripers as well.
