It come to the point where some states are now stopping all incoming vehicles with out of state licenses to question where (which state) they are coming from.

I am getting so restless. Is it safe to go fishing? Just for a couple of hours. Would not eat. Catch and release, Only.

Maryland & Virginia have closed down (banned) all recreational fishing. You can fish if you are doing so to put food on the table.
I guess I'm not the only one bored.
I just called Jake from State Farm and he asked me "What I was wearing"[/quote

Did you tell him the truth, that you were wearing your wife’s nightgown?

Joking, of course.
Hi, when using a drift sock and reeling in a fish will the line tend to get wrapped around the drift sock?[/quote.

Not if you keep your line away from it. If you are trolling for large fish, you just might get tangled up as the fish moves back an forth and side to side. We use a drift sock to slow down the troll speed as needed.
Last weekend my wife and I took out the kayaks to a lake just to get out. Of course I wasn't going to waste an opportunity to fish so I grabbed a couple of rods and away we went. After a day of not catching anything we decided to call it and head for home. I decided to cast " one more time" and ended up pulling out am entire rod and reel combo. It must have been dropped a short time ago because the reel looks brand new ( Lew's spinner) and the rod is in great shape. Come to find out the reel is valued at $60 but the rod is a St Croix avid series 6'6 fast action retailing for $150! That got me thinking, what is the craziest thing you have caught while fishing that wasn't a fish?[/quote

Made a cast and a large Pelican tried to take the bait; hooked it in the wing and it landed on the waters surface. Managed to reel over to the boat, and, it three of us to get it into the boat and penned down long enough to remove the hook and get it
back overboard.

You mean "FG," right?

In some posts it is referred to as FG & in others as FB. Most videos showing how to tie it it is an FB knot.

I think you would be fine for some of the smaller ones but a little underpowered for the bigger ones. If your rod matches your reel, the rod could easily break with a 5 # fish flopping around. I would upgrade to a 4000 series reel, a rod that will handle 15 - 25 # line and put a 25 # line on it. (MHO)

Talk about overkill, wow.

Bait casters are used for heavy lures and lines. ie big crank baits, jigs, tubes, flipping, punching mats, etc. What some call power fishing. Spinning is more finesse. Drop shot, small tubes, small cranks, shaky heads, wacky worms etc. Any time you need to scale down your lure size small enough that it can't be worked on heavy bait caster. If you watch MLF at all you will see when the pros are at a very clear lake almost all are throwing small baits on very light line with spinning. As far as accuracy they are both very accurate depending on the user and their expertise. As with all things worth while practice, practice.

I have caught many Stripers that weighed 30 lbs or more on spinning tackle.

Unless you usually spend most of the time trying to cast near to or under overhanging stuff or something similar, you should stick with spinning reels— much, much easier to use.

As relates to precise casting with a spinning reel in open water, it is a matter of practice and learning to do so; also using the proper spinning rod with sufficient ability to place the lure where you want it to go.

The only time I use both hands to make a cast is when surf casting at the beach!

If it is knotting after you have cast and retrieved a light lure several times and upon the next cast several loops of braided line come off of the spool at the same time, then it is a wind knot. To prevent this, after every five for more casts retrieve the next cast while putting tension on the line with your fingers. ‘‘This winds the line back on your reel somewhat more tightly. If the knot is just twisted line from the lure spinning while in the water, then a small barrel swivel between your braid line and a mono shock leader will solve the problem.
You could use wd40 as a flamethrower by just holding a lighter up when you spray[/quote

Yeah, and if the flame backs up to the pencil tube the can can explode in your hand.

I use only braided line and fluorocarbon leaders and attach the two with a FG knot. There are many video's on You Tube that will show you how to tie them. I have never had one fail, they have +100% break strength, and are very small diameter and will reel right through the small eyes on any fishing rod.

I second that!

A knot is the weak point of any line weather it’s braided ,mono, or barge rope. Like jer said just be sure to tie them correctly

If you tie 10lb mono to 10lb braid using an FB knot and measure the breaking strength on a proper machine, the mono line will break before the knot breaks.

I use braid line on almost every reel I have and have had no problem(s) with line breakage at the knot. Just keep in mind that if you get hung up, use a rag or, better yet, wooden peg to wrap the braid line around in order to break the line without the line cutting into your hand— it is very strong line and is hard to break off. If using a leader line of mono or fluorocarbon line, I recommend that you learn to tie the FB knot to join the leader to the braid line.
