Let the admins worry about if it's appropriate. That was Mickey's opinion and he voiced it and there's nothin wrong with that, don't get on him folks. But I don't think we need to be worrying about offending every individual group of people every time we want to share a joke. Grandparents and mailmen. Who will it be next? Widows and ball players? those were the days when

people actually talked to each other

we had it all and didn't realize it

do you remember"double dog dare"?

all the girls had ugly gym clothes

it took three minutes for the tv to warm up

no one owned a purebred dog

a quarter was an excellent allowance

you would stoop to pick up a penny in the gutter

you got your windshield cleaned, your oil checked, tires checked and gas pumped without asking, and all for free.and you even got trading stamps

laundry detergent had free glasses ,dishes or towels inside the box

they said they would keep kids back a grade if they failed--and they actually did it

a 57 chevy was every ones dream car--to cruise,peel out,lay rubber,or street race

young people went steady

lying on your back in the grass with your friends saying things like--"that cloud looks like a"--

playing ball with no adults around to make up rules

stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic seals, because no one then tried to poison perfect strangers

and with all our progress don't you wish, just once, that you could step back in time and savor the slower pace, and share it with the children of today

kids actually had to be selected to play on organized baseball or football teams

no one got trophys or awards just for competing

candy cigarettes, wax miniature coke bottles with colored sugar water inside,

party lines,pea shooters,78 rpm records,green stamps,mimeograph paper

do you remember when decisions were made by "eeny-meeny-miney-moe"?

mistakes were corrected by uttering "do over"

race issues meant who was the fastest runner

catching fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening

it wasn't odd to have more than one best friend

Saturday morning cartoons weren't 30 minute commercials for action figures

"olly olly action free" made perfect sense

spinning around getting dizzy and falling down was amusement

the worst embarrassment was being picked last for a sandlot team

war--was a card game

taking drugs meant orange flavored chewable aspirin

water balloons were a weapon

I am sharing this with you today because a friend "double dog dared "me to

remember the perfect age is somewhere between old enough to know better and too young to care

do you remember Howdy Doody,Peanut Gallery,The Lone Ranger,The Shadow Knows,Gene Autry,Roy Rogers,Hopalong Cassidy,Bob Steele,Tom mix ,Tim Holt,Lash Larue,Randolf Scott,Trigger

,buttermilk,Silver,Scout, and oh so many others from our past?Bob Hope,Bing Crosby,Red Skelton,Fibber Mcgee and Molly,Amos and Andy

Benny Goodman,Xavier Cugat

Clark Gable,Maureen Ohara,,Spencer Tracy,Katherine Hepburn,James Cagney,Edward G Robinson,Humphrey Bogart?

Hank Williams,Ernest Tubbs,Roy Acuff--to name just a few

Do you remember??

If you remember all or most of them

I've been looking to find something definitive on whether or not you can fish Calif lakes/reservoirs under the "stay at home" order. I found some stuff that implies or infers that you can but no real yes or no. Can anybody out there point me to something that says, yes you can fish alone or with someone in your household?

I'm in Madera County and have several Army Corp reservoirs that I think have not been formally closed.

From what I understand you can go out but do not mingle with other people. I believe they are calling it a 6' rule. Keep a 6' distance from other people and here in commie Virginia no more than 10 people in a group. Mike

It’s the time of year for the annual Yellow Perch run !
While fishing for them in the past, I have used minnows. However, where I live now Potomac/ Rappahanock rivers area , I cannot get minnows easily.
Any thoughts as to artificial baits or other live bait for Yellow Perch ?

Small pieces of bacon. You'll also get catfish as well. Mike

We've been called paranoid but we have all of that. I didn't wait for something to come up but bought ahead of time and stored. I'm sure many here have done so also. Good luck and may God watch over and bless all of us. Mike

It could very well be, but the old people are supposed to get the coronavirus and they just shoot dust. Oh, you said, healthy, self quarantined folks. Then it could happen. My mistake!

I checked with the liquor store today and they said that they have no intention of closing any time soon. Wouldn't that be something if they closed? Couples would be trying to get a divorce and all of the judges would be in quarantine. Murders could also spike. Where is this going to end?

The major problem with this VIRUS, which isn't as bad a earlier VIRUS', is that it has been politicalized and the fake media has gone crazy with it.

I personally think it is a man made strain as it doesn't have much effect on the young so much as older people who already have compromising conditions but the young could pass it on. No one under 80 has died at this point.

The problem with these things is that they mutate and become out of control of the originators. Stay safe, take precautions but most of all don't allow them to panic you. Mike

THIS SAD STORY ILLUSTRATES ONE OF THE MOST SALIENT LESSONS WE LEARN THROUGH OUR LIVES.

It's easy to imagine life as simple---good or bad,but often we wind up with a mix of both that shapes our lives
and our characters, making us who we are.
now the story

One day a man was walking down a path and saw a butterfly cocoon that was about to open.As he watched a small opening appeared in the cocoon. The man sat and watched for an hour or two as the butterfly struggled to emerge through the small hole,.Then it seemed to stop making any progress,it appeared that it had got as far as it could and could get no farther.
the man decided that he could help the butterfly so he used his knife to enlarge the hole in the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily, but the body was withered and its wings were shriveled.
The man continued to watch ,expecting that at any moment the wings enlarge and open to be able to support the butterfly. But that did not happen,in fact the butterfly spent the rest of it's short life crawling around with a withered body and shriveled wings.
It was never able to fly.

What the man in his good will and kindness did not understand was that the restrictive cocoon and the
struggle required for the butterfly to get through that tiny opening was natures way to ensure that fluid was forced into its body and its wings so that it would be ready to fly when it emerged from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are what we need in life.If we were allowed to go through life without obstacles WE would not be as strong as we could have been,it would cripple us.
(NEVER ABLE TO FLY)

I asked for strength but was given difficulties to make me strong
I asked for wisdom but was given problems to solve
I asked for prosperity but was given a brain and a body to work
I asked for courage but was given obstacles to overcome
I asked for love but was given troubled people to help
I asked for favors but was given opportunities
I received nothing I asked for but was given everything I needed

I will live my life without fear.I will confront every obstacle and know that I will overcome it.

STAY SAFE EVERY ONE

I just love those stressful events, not. I guess one of them could be having your eye doctor who's trying to figure out why you have double vision tell you that she thinks you had a stroke. Went through three different eye doctors in the past week., two of them yesterday. That's a lot of examination time including having my eyes dilated twice in one day. After the MRI and hours of questions needed to complete examinations they came in and said that they had good news and I didn't have a stroke. That I have to admit it took a load off my mind. I left my house 4 a 9 a.m. appointment and after everything was finished got home at 2 a.m. Saturday. At least I know that I don't have to worry about another stroke. They tell me that there are several causes for double vision and they have ruled out the stroke and the other two are treatable so I should end up okay. Long as I can thread a line through the eye of a hook I'm in good shape. Have a great day I am going to enjoy my 45 up to 54 degree day in beautiful sunshine.

Been getting shots in my left eyeball for about 2 years now. Mack. I'm lucky that I can see pretty well out of my right eye. I'm in glasses, 670/20 left eye and 620/20 right eye. I get to go in on Wed. to see if I need another shot. Doc says I'm also getting cataracts but not bad enough to deal with right now. My question to him was wouldn't be better to correct early and was told no that a little later would be more effective, go figure that one out. Any hoo, getting older and actions taken when younger take a toll which we have to just deal with. We are all lucky to be alive at this time as medicine has advanced so fast that almost anything can be helped to one degree or another and has been improved as apposed to 50 years ago.

Tight lines to all of you and keep that glass at least half full if not fuller. Mike

I like the advice of NO COTTON not even underwear, go silk if you can find/afford. I use polypropylene long johns and sometimes polarfleece pants over long johns, if it's really cold. You would be much better off with breathable waders and layers, rather than rubber and they will certainly last longer(fewer leaks). Frogg Toggs and Hodgeman both make several styles for relatively reasonable pricing, some less than $100, even some closer to $50.
My favorite ADD-ON for ANY wading is NEOPRENE SOCKS, about $25... best choice for ANY wading.
I believe that you will also benefit from not having cold, stiff rubber, which offers zero insulation as well as limits movement. The SOCK FOOT types are also much more comfy and warmer, however you will need to get wading boots, if you don't already have a pair.
I suggest you check out CRAIGSLIST. I just looked at our local CL, and saw at least half a dozen of each(boots, waders) for as little as $25-50, ...lots of folks gear up, then just don't go or give up the sport. Lots of bargains out there... meeting with a guy later today to see/buy a TFO flyrod with a Lamson reel, loaded with Rio line....$100 !!!!

If you put a pair of panty hose under the long johns they will help retain heat and boost circulation. We wore them frostbite sailboat racing in winter on the upper Chesapeake Bay. Mike
