Finally got on the walleyes yall... finally. First walleye for me, period. I'm 39yrs old and never caught a walleye...smh, its embarrassing.

I got three yesterday, along with a personal best flathead that was probably 50lbs or more. I went down before church today and caught another big flathead, and everyone else had a few walleye on the stringers.. I'm loving this!! I'm told the spring run is the best time, but I gotta say I cant imagine better than this lol. And yes, I am a little excited hahaha.

Thanks everyone for the welcome.. Alabama Bill, thanks bud!

Will B. Thanks for commenting I will try that. I'm catching a TON of flatheads and channel cats, decent sized, but that's about all so far. Oh, and sheephead ofcourse lol. We cant eat the majority of the fish brought out of Saginaw Bay due to chemicals smh.. catfish are no-one's along with all the other bottom feeding fish that remain in the river.. walleyes come and go tho, so I believe they're safe-ish.

Anyone here live in Mid-Michigan?

Can’t tell you for sure about the Saginaw but the Wolf river in Wi has a huge walleye run in the spring starting as soon as the ice is out. These are males and spawning females so you can get some pretty decent sized fish. Most fishermen use catch and release on the large spawners. In the fall we have a very nice run of mostly 12 - 17 inch males. These are all great eating fish and the river has a lot less boats than the spring run. Chances are that if you have a good spring run you will have a lot of walleyes in the river in the fall also.

Thanks, that is what I'm hearing.. the spring run is where it's at I guess... I'm just trying to get one or two in the freezer before the freezing cold comes..

Hi all,

My name is Denny and I live in Bay City, Michigan, and I fish on the Saginaw river. I've heard that the Saginaw river is a supreme walleye fishery, and I've seen the proof of that by way of other anglers...I've been unsuccessful as of yet. My question is this:

Do the walleye run in the river in the fall? And also, how would I target them from the banks? The river is high and the visibility is near zero at the moment, and probably won't clear up much, so what would I use in fast, low visibility water?

Thanks in advance, and it's nice to meet the forum!
Denny L.
