Crappie are line shy and they don't spook as bad on the smaller line. Just make sure your drag is adjusted properly and have a blast with light tackle.

If your not comfortable with carrying a gun just get yourself a big sheath knife to wear on your hip. It will give pause to the creeps that are up to no good. If people still approach and make you feel uncomfortable just be honest and tell them they are disturbing you. The ones that don't leave after that probably need to be cut.

We use mud minnows some call them fat heads, we don't keep them in water. We put a tray with wet papers on ice . They go dormant but become lively after hooked and put back in water. They keep all day even on the hottest of days.

Do not conceal it , letting it be seen is deterring enough for most. But don't carry at all if you can't use it when needed. Good luck and tight lines.

I've tried bait casters before. And found I don't have the patience to deal with the bird nesting. I much prefer spinning reels.

Tip I heard from a friend on Flounder. When they hit and then dig into the sand, you can pull the hook out of their mouth. Keep the line taunt and then reach to the top of the rod and start flipping the taunt line with your finger. The vibrations will go down the line to the hook in its mouth and irritate the fish and it will come out of the sand. Now you can reel it in.
. If you don't give him time to turn the bait around head first you just pull it out of his mouth, your finger trick is buying you that time.

Cast net is only worth it if you actually use it. But if you do use it it will more than pay for itself.

Lots of good info here if you ask your questions right. Open ended or vague questions are hard to give feedback on.

Don't scale them , cut the fillets and then fillet the skin off. A really sharp knife and this will cut your process time in half.

I like billy birds idea, nothing worse than someone buying you a rig you don't really like, cause you know they mean well. I'd much rather get the gift card and get what I really wanted.

If you've never fished a bait caster get someone to help you adjust the tension on the spool or you will spend more time cussing and clearing back lashes than fishing.
