We bottom bounce when drifting, minimum size for California Halibut is 22”
Finally made it back on the water a week and a half after my truck (Recovered 6/15) and trailer (Recovered 6/29)were stolen on 6/14.
We had a good day taking home 6 Halibut, 1 Striper-7pound, 1 Sand dab. We released 1 striper, 1 bat ray and 1 Dungeness crab.
I caught a PB 35”, 17 pound Halibut, surprisingly it didn’t fight much and I thought it was undersized until we saw it next to the boat.
We drifted live bait on Halibut rigs, we fished around Alcatraz and Angel island in 50’ to 10’ of water.
Awesome, one of my favorite fish to catch and eat!
What brand GPS tracker are you using?
I’m going to add one along with an alarm
Update: Truck was recovered last night in Oakland I went and checked out today, they only broke the ignition, took all the fuse box relays and fuses and stole some tools behind back seat.
Boat is parked in a Marina slip for the Month.
Went fishing yesterday and had a great day on the water, we caught 18 fish,we kept 5 Halibut and 5 Stripers. We released 2 soupfin sharks, 4 undersized striper and 2 undersized Halibut.
Got back to the dock and luck changed, found out my Truck and boat trailer had been stolen shortly after I launched. The harbor master has video footage of truck and trailer leaving parking area about 30 minutes after we launched.
I’m now in search of a replacement EZ Loader trailer for my 2005 20’ Northriver Seahawk.
Got so busy filling out police reports I forgot to take pictures of our catch.
Good article, thanks
When I use live bait I normally drift with the current and use a drift sock to slow us down
Nice job guys, good eating!
You can’t fish from a boat for near shore rockfish until July 16th in the San Francisco management area
Good eating size, good job
Took a few buddies out yesterday, we tried live bait and it didn’t disappoint. The bait line looked long but moved fast and only took about 20 minutes.
We ended up catching 19 fish.
7 Keeper Halibut 24-29”
1 Striper 20”
1 Shaker striper
8 Shaker Halibut
1 Leopard shark 4’ -released
1 Stingray - released
I took the leftover live bait home and made 7 trays of anchovies.
