Not on fire like some years but still a steady diet of smallmouth with a few walleye and largemouth mixed in. If you make it up we may have to devote a day to stripers.
Saw,
I knew you catch more fish than I but just now realized why. I guess I'll have to consider taking beer on the boat. Haven't done that for years.🤔😀😂

I was hoping the lakes were getting fuller this year. You are great to take people out fishing 🎣. I hope to be one of those fortunate enough to go one day. Good luck to you and Mike the rest of your trip.
You are invited anytime Mike. We leave Saturday but I have booked the entire month of October for my fall trip.
It's been slower than normal for Lake Powell this week. But we have had steady fishing. Today we both were having trouble with fish coming unbuttoned at the boat. Started out in one of my "spots" but 58 degree water and it was slow. Started hunting warmer water and got into them at 64+. The great thing about Lake Powell is it's so big. Wulffy is my fifth guest this trip and none of them have fished the same place twice. The lake is rising one foot per day so it's a new lake every time out.
Come and fish Lake Powell. There is no limit as they destroy the shad population. Fish and Game encourages us to keep every fish.

Jim... are you using a high quality braid? I had the same problem for a while until someone pointed out that my cheap braid was losing its weave. Since then I have tried P-Line Teflon coated braid and Power Pro Slick X2, both have eliminated the problem.
Steve,
I use the regular Power Pro from Walmart. I will look for the X2 next time I'm at Bass Pro in Mesa, Az. Surprisingly there is not much available in Page even though it's the launch point for Lake Powell.

Hey Jim, I can't help you with the drop shot set up but I have gone to the knot shown in the video below if that is any help to you in your braid to fluro instead of the swivel.

Plumbob,
I actually downloaded that when you posted it some time ago.

I gave up my beloved bird dogs and upland hunting and retired in 2014. That's when I returned to fishing. My how things had changed. My once treasured Mitchell Garcia 300s were obsolete so I essentially started over.
One of the most effective new techniques for our clear water Western lakes was the drop shot. Until now I have pretty much been a traditionalist using spinning gear with braid and fluorocarbon leader. I have been using an 8-10 foot leader so I could quickly retie if I broke off without losing time in the water.
I fish Lake Powell for a month each spring and fall. (A benefit of that is I have the privilege of fishing with Graywulff May 6-13.)
Wednesday I got really fed up with line twist on the drop shot rig. Literally had to stop and cut off a large section of knotted braid three times. After researching on YouTube Wednesday night decided to go with a swivel between the braid and fluorocarbon leader.
Advantage, line twist is gone. Done. Nada. Disadvantage, I am restricted to a shorter leader and I have to be constantly aware of the swivel so I don't reel it up to the rod tip.
I would very much appreciate hearing what everyone else is using for drop shot plus any advice.
Thanks for your feedback.
Jim
Jimmy,
I am at Lake Powell until May 13. After that I fish Roosevelt and Apache. I had a Ranger RT178. Great boats. I now run a Crestliner Fish Hawk. Much safer on Lake Powell. Message me if you want to fish after May 13.
Welcome sir. I grew up in Bloomington but have been a westerner since 1974.
See today's post from Johnnyja65.
Beautiful pics Jar. I drove down to Phoenix for Easter dinner with the kids. I had never before truly seen a desert super bloom. It was amazing and your pics just reminded me.
