Whitey Tighty lure or the After Dinner mint. You can find them on KSL. Guy in Ivans, Utah makes them - 5$ free shipping. Caught lakers , bows, browns, kokanee and wiper on that lure.
I’m in Northern Utah. We have a number of reservoirs with good numbers of Kokanee within an hour. Strawberry has larger Kok’s which average 22-24”. It is about 2 hrs away. The wipers are a hybrid cross between white and striped bass - great eating!
Friday was a 3 Kok and 1 Brown day. Saturday was a 4 Kok (limit) 2 Rainbow day. Monday was a 4 Kok and 1 Brown day. Wednesday was 4 Kok 1 Brown and 3 Smallie day. Have family in for reunion so not fishing again till Monday. Keep a tight line out there.
Sorry my phone died. I took guys to Alaska and if they took Meclazine, wore the patch or band and refrained from the previous all usually went well. Relax and enjoy the trip.
To help prevent the ‘SICKNESS’ refrain from alcohol also caffeine and any fatty foods such as bacon or sausage etc for breakfast. Enjoy when you get back on land but not during or a couple days before. I took guys to Alaska
Some days you get the fish - some days you are stuck with the worm😝. Keep after ‘em and the fish will be yours.
They will be smoking in about an hour. I’m a little slower at my age! Been getting gear ready to go back at it in the morning so been soaking the Kok’s. Use alder for a smooth rich taste. My mouth is drooling now - I smoke a batch and they are gone in a couple hours. The kids/grandkids seem to know when its smokin time!😂
Just retired so back at fishing near home. Have made yearly trip to Alaska and have caught 225# halibut, 44” ling cod, many sockeye, silvers and a 74# king salmon, along with many other species. Now I have time to fish more here at home so picked up a 16’ deep V Tracker with downriggers etc. have been out 2-4 days a week with success with the waleyes, bows, tiger trout, bass, catfish. I finally caught a wiper yesterday! The kokanee have been my main target lately but yesterday it was a 24” bow, (3) kokanee- 15 - 16 - 17 inchers (limit is 4) a 15” wiper, and a few smallmouth bass - biggest was 15”. Had a great day until all the skiers woke up! Been fun reading the posts and hearing some good advice for our fellow brothers and sisters. Got about 30 kokanee in the freezer so need to get them ready for smoking tomorrow. Keep a tight line out there!
That will probably be our target this weekend. Might just have to filet a couple or six!! The smoker is lonely for some Kokanee and so is my stomach!! Thanks for sharing and many more days like that!
Great supper! We too harvest a couple once or twice a month. Kinda like Wendys motto - ‘ fresh never frozen’... 😁 We are lucky enough to fish several waters within 20 min to a couple hour drive. Some days we want Bows, other days cutthroat, splake, wipers, bass, walleye, lakers, tiger trout, muskies. Depending on our next meal taste buds - that is what drives us. Being retired is great! Some days we load the boat after fishing and then hit the firepit at the campground and have fresh from water to over the palate! YUM!
Enjoy the harvest. We too also take a couple to eat once or twice a month - kinda like Wendys motto ‘ fresh never frozen ‘ 😁 We are fortunate to vary between bows, splake, tiger trout, lakers, walleyes, bass, wipers. Different waters - different dinner fare all within a couple hour drive. God bless America!
