Sea trout , a member of the drum family . Not a trout at all. But it is the most popular sport fish in Florida. Easy and fun yo catch . Good fried . Yes it has black spots on its body . Two front fangs and a row of teeth . Will eat fish half it’s size . An Alpha Predator in the back water . Trophy fish are called Gators ! This means 25 inches or greater. Right now they are fat , but will thin out as the season progresses . By September they will be heavier and you a more likely to catch your gators. They eat live shrimp and pin fish . And anything in your bass box. A beautiful species. Try to release the Gators because these are the big females that repopulate our fishery. That’s It!

MrJw, thanks for your input . I will study the water and play with the colors you suggested. After top water I usually throw soft baits . Yesterday I tried a pumpkin seed green yamato sinking worm . They killed it ! Lost a lot of fish and worms , but the action was constant.

These are saltwater species . They are the most popular sport fish in Florida and are actually part of the drum family . Voracious predators with a row of teeth for holding their prey . They eat shrimp and other baitfish. I fish everyday . Live on the bay have a nice dock to fish off of. The season is just starting to pickup. Now is when you catch the big egg laden sows .great talking to you .

Hi today I learned that trout will hit bass worms. The Sinko works best and in pumpkin seed , 3 inch
I looked at the solunar table . It said that at 1:39 pm today is the best bite . I put a worm on made on cast and got hooked up with a 3 lb speckled sea trout. So trust your tide tables .

Hi Guys , Rollie is right , it work s . I learned it at the ER from a Dr who fished. I Caught a trout and as I reached for it he spaz out the free hook impaled my index finger . Now I have a hook in me and the other in a fish who is shaking his tail, so it was a little sporty until I flung him off. I cut the hook off the lure . I try to remove but no joy . So to Er I drive. The Dr walks in looks at the hook and Say s Mirror Lure ? At that point I knew I was in good shape. He used a piece of o2 hose , looped around bend of hook his assistant put pressure on shaft of hook , a quick snap and it flew across the room. Painless ! A first aid kit is always a good call on the boat with alcohol and some form of pain killer.
