Yes it was Detroit River, and I am not versed in the species of Sturgeon. The river connects the Great Lakes, basically Lake Huron to Lake Erie with Lake St Claire in between. I know some sturgeon live in Salt water and spawn in fresh water rivers? Not sure. Just sayin!😳

Had to chuckle at the copy written with the 240lb one, especially the "one of the largest ever caught" tag.. At that weight and length ? hardly think so...... LOTS AND LOTS of MUCH bigger... on both specs. And yes, they are quite old by the time they get that big, ancient by the time they get to be 8'-10' (and I have seen pictures of several even larger, a century ago) and 400-600lbs+, like we see/hear about on the Columbia each year. We have 240lb'rs in the Rogue !

Fixorfish, I believe they are talking about lake sturgeon. I thought the same thing when I read it. I guess they are different species?

I did hook what I thought was a sturgeon one day about 10 years ago, fought and chased it fo 37 minutes and a half mile. I told my Buddy from the start is that I just wanted to see it. Never did, I could not get the fish to surface. Finally hook pulled out😔

Very cool fish story! Wow...way to go nursing that lunker in on light tackle! You have the patience of Job! And the river current is another factor too! From what I have heard, the populations are coming back and numbers are growing in that river system.

My father and I used to drift fish for walleye farther up the waterway in Port Huron... North and South of the Bluewater bridge on the St Clair River and opening to Lake Huron. Every now and then a sturgeon would come to the surface and porpoise near the boat. Whenever it happened, we were both typically looking the right way and then we'd look at each other and say "WOW...did you see that!". They are an impressive fish no matter where they are! Never hooked one during any of our outings, but had a blast with the walleyes.

Just to set story straight, it was a friend of a friend who landed the fish, not I. He actually guides part time on river.

Very cool. I wonder how old that dinosaur was?

I believe they said around 80 years for the smaller one, and at least 100+ for the bigger one

The tolling motor is connected to the sonar units via a powered Ethernet panel, which you have to purchase from humminbird . The heading sensor, which is also powered, is paired with the trolling motor via Bluetooth connectivity. It must be installed in a location that it will ‘see’ the
Motor for best results. It also must be installed as close to parallel with the keel of your boat to be most accurate. There are instructions on how to calibrate the sensor to your boat for maximum effectiveness. Power up trolling motor and power up heading sensor and pair per instructions, simple. YOU MUST MAKE SURE BOTH OF THE HELIX UNITS HAVE THE SAME SOFTWARE LOADED. Otherwise, they will not communicate correctly. Also, the Ethernet panel and the heading sensor use power, and they do not have on/off switches. So in order to prevent battery drainage when not fishing, a power on/off switch must be installed. Humminbird also has tech service that you can call and get a real live person. Or you can also email your question and they will get back to you in a couple hours. I used them more than once🤓

Friend of a friend landed this walleye fishing on the Detroit River last week. Just so happens a DNR research vessel was in area and seen him fighting it and assisted him with landing it. They weighed and measured it, then tagged it. After helping him to hold and get a picture, fish was released. 72”, 88lbs, on 6lb test!

Just set mine up. I have a Helix 7 on the bow and a Helix 8 on the console. Terrova with I pilot link. Set up the one boat network via Ethernet cables. Exactly what are your questions, I will help if I can.

Nice mess BS!
Curious about the fact that the whole stem is there. I was taught to slice the stem leaving the root portion in the ground, which I was told insures future production. How about it all, any truth in that? Or just an old wives tale?

How will highways be maintained?? Each state and the Federal Government levies taxes on gasoline and petroleum products!!

Interesting Take on Electric Cars

As an engineer I love the electric vehicle technology However, I have been troubled for a longtime by the fact that the electrical energy to keep the batteries charged has to come from the grid and that means more power generation and a huge increase in the distribution infrastructure.

Whether generated from coal, gas, oil, wind or sun, installed generation capacity is limited. A friend sent me the following that says it very well. You should all take a look at this short article.

IF ELECTRIC CARS DO NOT USE GASOLINE, THEY WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN PAYING A GASOLINE TAX ON EVERY GALLON THAT IS SOLD FOR AUTOMOBILES, WHICH WAS ENACTED SOME YEARS AGO TO HELP TO MAINTAIN OUR ROADS AND BRIDGES. THEY WILL USE THE ROADS, BUT WILL NOT PAY FOR THEIR MAINTENANCE!

In case you were thinking of buying hybrid or an electric car:
Ever since the advent of electric cars, the REAL cost per mile of those things has never been discussed. All you ever heard was the mpg in terms of gasoline, with nary a mention of the cost of electricity to run it. This is the first article I've ever seen and tells the story pretty much as I expected it to.

Electricity has to be one of the least efficient ways to power things yet they're being shoved down our throats. Glad somebody finally put engineering and math to paper.

At a neighborhood BBQ I was talking to a neighbor, a BC Hydro Executive. I asked him how that renewable thing was doing. He laughed, then got serious.

If you really intend to adopt electric vehicles, he pointed out, you had to face certain realities. For example, a home charging system for a Tesla requires 75 amp service. The average house is equipped with 100 amp service. On our small street (approximately 25 homes), the electrical infrastructure would be unable to carry more than three houses with a single Tesla, each. For even half the homes to have electric vehicles, the system would be wildly over-loaded.

This is the elephant in the room with electric vehicles. Our
residential infrastructure cannot bear the load. So as our genius elected officials promote this nonsense, not only are we being urged to buy these things and replace our reliable, cheap generating systems with expensive, new windmills and solar cells, but we will also have to renovate our entire delivery system! This latter "investment" will not be revealed until we're so far down this dead end road that it will be presented with an 'OOPS...!' and a shrug.

If you want to argue with a green person over cars that are
eco-friendly, just read the following. Note: If you ARE a green person, read it anyway. It's enlightening.

Eric test drove the Chevy Volt at the invitation of General Motors and he writes, "For four days in a row, the fully charged battery lasted only 25 miles before the Volt switched to the reserve gasoline engine. Eric calculated the car got 30 mpg including the 25 miles it ran
on the battery. So, the range including the 9-gallon gas tank and the 16 kwh battery is approximately 270 miles.

It will take you 4.5 hours to drive 270 miles at 60 mph. Then add 10 hours to charge the battery and you have a total trip time of 14.5 hours. In a typical road trip your average speed (including charging time) would be 20 mph.

According to General Motors, the Volt battery holds 16 kwh of electricity. It takes a full 10 hours to charge a drained battery. The cost for the electricity to charge the Volt is never mentioned, so I looked up what I pay for electricity.

I pay approximately (it varies with amount used and the seasons) $1.16 per kwh. 16 kwh x $1.16 per kwh = $18.56 to charge the battery.
$18.56 per charge divided by 25 miles = $0.74 per mile to operate the Volt using the battery.

Compare this to a similar size car with a gasoline engine that gets only 32 mpg. $3.19 per gallon divided by 32 Mpg = $0.10 per mile.

The gasoline powered car costs about $25,000 while the Volt costs $46,000 plus. So the Canadian Government wants loyal Canadians not to do the math, but simply pay twice as much for a car, that costs more than seven times as much to run, and takes three times longer to drive across the country.
A different perspective than the one pushed by the... (show quote)

Thank you for that! First time I have seen the truth!
