Good mornin' Big S, a very nice picture of the rooms, enough for a meal. I'm sure they are not out up here yet. We need a rain and warmer weather for that to happen. Enjoy your day.

I don't recall seeing them round here. Maybe that's because I don't look ๐Ÿค”

Big smallmouth it has been a pretty dry spring around here. The blondes are popping up around. the snow probably not going to hurt anything but the cold will I would say. Good luck on the shroom hunting and fishing man.

Nice find. Simply love them with fresh caught trout. Iโ€™ve hunted here but have not yet had any success. The earliest Iโ€™ve ever found them here was April 24 but will continue to search. Enjoy those tasty treats.

Nice mess BS!
Curious about the fact that the whole stem is there. I was taught to slice the stem leaving the root portion in the ground, which I was told insures future production. How about it all, any truth in that? Or just an old wives tale?

What you see growing up is a fruiting body that produces spores for a new generation. The mycelium, the root like structure that spreads underground, is what they grow from, sort of like the branches of an apple tree. Probably doesn't hurt the mushroom, but you may as well cut it off since you're going to trim it to eat it.

My wife and I are avid mushroom hunters. We have taken a couple classes (guided hunts). Really enjoy it! What we do, as it was suggested by our instructor, is if the mushroom is past the point of harvest we will break up and broadcast the cap in the area it is growing. Helps the spores to spread out in that area. Iโ€™ve seen from year to year the improvement in harvest in an area after this practice.

I have 155ac. where you can hunt for Molly Moochers, as they're called here in WV. I couldn't find one if it was on my nose. Several of my neighbor go up the mountain to look for them, and usually bring some back. Wife will not cook them or eat them at all.
